arahzel We saw the heartbeat and our little one yesterday. 11weeks, and 175bpm.

dsaucone I heard the heartbeat at my appointment today with the doppler at 10 weeks. I didn't time it so I'm not sure, but it was pretty fast.

I believe it's above 160 is girl and below is a boy. But my daughter's was below and she's, well a girl.

Yes, my 8 wk appt was an ultra sound. I haven't been able to pick it up on a doppler yet at 10.5 wks. With #2 he was so low in my uterus at 12 wks we couldn't hear it on the doppler at my appt so my Dr did an ultra sound just to make sure all was ok.

100%mom With my DD on my first appointment at 8 wks we couldn't hear the heartbeat with the doppler, so because of passed mc's I had an ultrasound and saw it then. Then with my DS at 10 wks at the MW's we heard the heartbeat with the doppler. This time around I had an ultrasound at 8 wks and heard the heartbeat. Now we'll see if we can hear it with the doppler at my first MW appointment next Wed. My DD's heartbeats were on an average in the 160's. My DS's were in the 150's. Now this one was somewhere in the 170's. We'll see what I have. I know a couple irl that had 4 babies and the first 3 all had the same heartbeats. 2 were boys. Then the 4th baby's heartbeat was different all together and another girl.

rozziemama we tried to get the heartbeat at 8.5 weeks, couldn't hear anything (which was normal) but the dr. scheduled an ultrasound anyway - the heartbeat was 164.

Now we're 18 weeks - at our last appt (16 weeks) the heartbeat was still in the 160s. My midwife (we switched to a midwife, much happier now!) said it will probably go down later but the 160s is a good, strong heartbeat.

I wonder if it means it's a girl. Hmmmm.

simcon With my last pregnancy, the mw didn't look for the hb before 11-12 weeks as a rule, just so people wouldn't worry. With this one, my mw (different practice) tried to hear it at 9w1d and couldn't hear it. I came back at 10w1 day and she still couldn't hear it (despite the fact that my uterus is tipped forward, so she thought there was a good chance she'd be able to). I was so worried between those appts, even though I knew it was way early--but I had had a 12w m/c where the baby died somewhere between 8-10 weeks or so--so I was very nervous until I got to see an ultrasound, which she scheduled for a couple of hours later. Not to discount your dissatisfaction with your doctor (sounds like there was more to it than this!), but from what I can tell, it's very common for practitioners not to listen for the hb when there's a slim chance of hearing it.

Suffice it so say it was a very bad experience (the appt.) and I feel cheated. :

Exactly! If we had tried and actually succeeded it would have made the whole, awful experience worthwhile. And if we hadn't succeeded then oh well...I'd be right back where I am. But he could have at least tried...
I'd like to think he was trying to keep me from stressing out...but I don't know if that's what his true intentions were. I think he just didn't want to "waste" his time. The whole thing seemed a little rushed. I mean, if he was truly just concerned for me he could have told me the same thing your midwife did, right? I really didn't like him. The first thing he did upon entering the exam room was ask me if I was feeling "bitchy." Personally I don't like that kind of language. But that aside, a "Hello, my name is Dr. ____. How are you?" would have been nice.

AutumnMama I was 11 weeks when I heard the HB (last Fri), and it was around 160.

With DD we heard her HB via doppler at 8 weeks, with DS it was over 10.

I had my first mw appt at 9.5 weeks and she said that we could *try* to hear a heartbeat but only if it wouldn't freak me out if we didn't hear anything, because they often can't hear anything with doppler until about 10.5-11weeks. I promised I wouldn't freak out and she was right... we couldn't find it. I was disappointed but was glad she warned me so that I'm not worrying (too much). I wish your doc would have at least given you the option! But s/he was probably trying to avoid stressing you out.

Rie At 8wks 3 days, 2 weeks ago, was 178. My Dr also said "nice strong heart beat" I had no idea what was normal or good...sounded good to me!
05-29-2008 02:42 PM
Munki'sMom I got to hear it for the 1st time yesterday with my midwife. I'm almost 13 weeks and it was 168. Was the same with both my girls too, me thinks its another girl.
05-29-2008 12:22 PM
simcon Ours was also 171 at 10w1d, and it had been 143 at 7w4d, and 141 at 6w4d... I read somewhere that it speeds up at 3.3 beats/minute/day until a certain point, and then goes back down (our ultrasounds didn't show that regular rate of speeding up, but it sure did speed up!). I think these weeks are when it's the fastest.
05-28-2008 09:58 PM
terrainthailand Wow, at our 13 week scan the heartbeat was 171... the doctor said that was normal too. Does it speed up over the weeks? Faster for a girl huh? I've been getting a boy vibe deep down but on the surface I feel completely certain that is a girl.

heather+mike2005 160 at 11w2d. That was yesterday.
05-28-2008 08:32 PM
chic2chic ours was 150 yesterday. (i believe that anything around 140 and up is normal.)
05-28-2008 07:51 PM
magpiedee I saw my midwife last Friday, and the HB was 154, which she said was normal, but which is lower than dd's was. Hers was always high 160's. I read somewhere that boys have a slightly slower HB than girls, so i'm really hoping boy!
05-28-2008 06:04 PM
MamaSong I saw the heartbeat on an ultrasound at 7.5 weeks and it was 165. The tech told me that was normal.
05-28-2008 03:44 PM
Lauren710 I heard the heartbeat by doppler at 9w5d and it was in the high 160s also, which my midwife told me is normal right now. Congrats on seeing/hearing your baby, I can't wait to have a peek at mine again
05-28-2008 03:36 PM
juliav We heard the heartbeat at 9w2d and we were at 165 bpm, so pretty much just like you!! The tech doing the ultrasound called it "a nice strong heartbeat" so I'm guessing that's right about what it should be around the 9 week mark.

I'm 11w4d now I wonder if it's any different? Isn't it so exciting!!!

2happymamas Has anyone used a doppler or anything to determine the heart beat rate? I had an ultrasound this morning (8w4d) and am measuring at 9w3d. I guess the baby is just growing quickly. It's not like I do not know exactly when I got pregnant. I know when and there is not any getting around it. The heart rate was 167 beats per minute. We got it all on videotape and can see the entire ultrasound again and hear the heartbeat. I've already watched it several times and we just had it done at 11:00 this morning! I this baby.

Anyone else heard the hearbeat yet? How many beats per minute? What is considered normal at this point?
