Firemom The fresher the milk is the better it is but don't discard the fact that just because its frozen it doesn't have any antibodies in it. From the breast its immediate advantage, in a bottle and drunk as soon as possible is next best, its good for up to 8 days in the fridge and will lose a little but not a lot and then again in a freezer its again loses a little but not a lot.

Your only giving 2 feedings per day by bottle and your nursing the rest of the time. So your baby is gettng plenty of antibodies. Even tho you may have pumped some of the milk a month ago your baby enventually gets the antibodies, it doesn't really matter when.

Its great you have so much stashed away, this way when your work you never have to worry about not having enough. I always tried to keep 100 oz frozen too, for emergencies and spillage

elizabeth rose Carmen, I always refigerated the milk immediately if I was not feeding her the pumped milk right away. I actually never gave her frozen milk, I kept that just for emergencies bc I had heard the same as you, that it isnt as good as fresh. Remeber it stays good in the fridge for up to a week I think. Since you are only giving pumped milk 2 x's a week, I would not worry abt it too much. My baby drank exclusively pumped milk, so it was a bigger issue for me, but I think since 99% of the time your babe is getting fresh milk, a little frozen will not hurt him. I know what you mean though, you always want your babe to have the best!

loving-my-babies which is better? I have heard refrigerated bm is better than frozen.
I pump and freeze. I have about 150 oz. in my freezer right now and use the oldest first. But my concern is, if ds is exposed to certain germs (we go to a couple playgroups during the week so he is exposed to other children) then the milk that is frozen won't have the antibodies he needs! I don't feed him ebm all day (only about 2 evenings a week, I work p/t and dh feeds him) but I want him to get the specific antibodies when he needs them!

any thoughts?
