Thanks, everyone.  :)  It felt like a silly question, but I really wasn't quite sure.

They'll have to buy a new SIM card for it.  That's where all of your data is stored.  Just remove and keep the SIM card.

I would most definitely erase all of the info I had put on the phone.

When I've donated old phones they have been happy to receive them without chargers, they also get plenty of people donating chargers without phones so they can match them up.  I'm not the only person to put my phone in the washer but still have a working charger :lol

Personally I would delete the numbers from the phone or just remove the sim card, maybe ask at the place your donating if they need the card. I wonder if they put new cards in anyway, I can't imagine a woman in danger who is given a phone (which is what a lot of the places here do with them) is going to be happy or safe when one of your friends rings your old mobile by mistake.

I would. Just because it's nice and you never know, they could identify the person by the phone number. I would also charge it just because my biggest pet peeve is you buy something and the battery is never charged.

I wouldn't bother donating a phone that doesn't have a charger. That kinda makes the phone pretty useless.

Bumping this because I have three old phones that I'd like to donate, but I have been hesitating for this very reason. I don't even know if I have a charger for two of them.

Silly question, but if I'm donating my old phone to a group that recycles them, do I need to recharge it and erase all of the data?

There's nothing that could identify my friends/family by their last names, etc.

Do I need to find my old charger and do this?

....I know this is a lame thread question, but I really don't know.  redface.gif
