Great one! I was thinking of doing something similar for our next birthday with a toy swap, but need to think further about the ages of the kids invited, and whether it could really work. Books are much more straightforward.

nhplantlady My cousin's wife whose daughters are 10 and 12 mentioned that they do this now. Have everyone bring a recently read "good" book to the party (rather than a present) and then they are swapped so that everyone goes home with a "gift" and something new to read. Encourages reading and less consumerism. Nice!
