Feralfox I'd be interested to know about them as well.  I had a mixed experience with my last birth and would like to learn about different options for the future.  These boards aren't very active these days so I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of replies.  An experienced doula might be a good source of information- especially one that has attended several births there.

I didn't deliver my son there, but I had a good post partum experience there. I had a home birth end of March and tore pretty badly so my midwife and I agreed I should be seen at a hospital. We opted to go to Maryland General because they are known for being pro natural birth and are staffed by lots of midwives. I went in and was treated amazingly well by all the nurses and the doctors considering they all knew I was a home birth. There was no rudeness or lecturing or anything. I was very impressed by them and I was in and out in just under 2 hours. I can't say how they are for an actual birth though...

So no one here has ever heard of her, or delivered at MG in the last couple of years?  I'm wondering now if I made a bad decision.

Bmorefarmgirl I believe Maryland general gets a lot of walk-in births. (all hearsay from these forums. I have no personal experience myself, so take that for what it's worth.) I believe that's why their c-section rate is so low, but they are also very natural birth friendly. I havent heard much bad about the place really except that there are a lot of low-income mamas giving birth there, and possibly a lot of mamas who haven't had much or any prenatal care. So I think that contributes to any stigma the l&d unit there might have attached to it, especially from other health care workers.

Good luck! 2 weeks sounds like a pretty normal lead time for any dr's office I've ever gone to in Baltimore.

I've been getting my care at Upper Chesapeake with the midwives, and am switching now at 28 weeks because I don't like how I'm being treated there.  I saw a lot of recommendations for Maryland General here, so I'm giving them a try (I would have gone with Mercy, but my insurance won't cover them).  I had at appointment scheduled with Upper Chesapeake today, but canceled it, and the other place couldn't get me in until June 14th.  That concerns me.  Are there scheduling issues there?  Also, I was assigned to Kelly Rudis at Women's Healthcare Associates for my first appointment there.  Does that sound right?  She's not listed as one of MG's midwives on their own website, and I can't seem to find a website for Women's Healthcare Associates, which is apparently the name of their OB clinic?  I'm a little worried I'm at the wrong place or something, even though my call was transferred over by the L&D floor at MG.

So, anyway, when I mentioned at work that I was thinking of switching to MG, I was told not to because they're "dangerous" over there and always sending us "half dead babies" (I work in another local hospital, in the NICU).  But everyone here seems to really like them.  Can anyone come talk to me who has delivered at MG?  Recently?  With Kelly Rudis?  Any and all information would be great.
