Taxi, fluoride is like vaccines and other "medical" treatments, we are not told the whole truth, Here is a new but long documentary on the fluoride issue. It is well worth spending the time to watch it.

That they didnt even tell you until AFTER the fact is really disturbing. Is there something that can be done, formal complaints with someone, negative reviews online or ?? anything?  I would be so furious.  A shame that as parents, we need to insist on "no fluoride treatments" or it gets done without our consent during a routine cleaning!

In all fairness to the dentist, we have never requested "no fluoride treatments" before, and our children have never reacted to fluoride (to our knowledge).

Obviously, from here on, we are going to make a HUGE deal about "no fluoride treatments," no matter what kind of fluoride they use.

When I was little, my mother told us how lucky our generation was to have fluoridated water and fluoride treatments at the dentist, and how we wouldn't get cavities like her generation did.

Obviously, that didn't work.

My kids got fluoride treatments, they brush, floss, drink (fluoridated) water rather than milk, juice, or soda, don't eat candy, don't chew gum, etc.  And they still have cavities.

Looks like my child isn't the first one to have adverse effects, and it also looks like this is NOT a product you want adminstered in conjunction with a vaccination (not that you'd want it administered in any case):

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/SCRIPTs/cdrh/cfdocs/cfmaude/detail.cfm?mdrfoi__id=1827696

Yet they claim that effects such as these are not anticipated: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/SCRIPTs/cdrh/cfdocs/cfmaude/detail.cfm?mdrfoi__id=1172071

And according to this    http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/cdrh_docs/pdf10/K102808.pdf it looks like it's not been approved by the FDA specifically as an anti-cavity device--which is how it was presented to me by the dental technician.

Apparently, it is a new kind of topical fluoride treatment.  The dental technician informed me that they use it AFTER they painted it on my son's teeth.

They gave me a marketing brochure for information:  http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawebserver?mwsId=66666UuZjcFSLXTtNxTcmxfyEVuQEcuZgVs6EVs6E666666--

I didn't think much about it, because my kids have never had reactions to fluoride treatments before.

But this time was different.  He had belly pain a few days later, then passed out, spent the next several weeks feeling exhausted, had cognitive problems, major facial pain, headaches, dizziness, tingling hands and feet, lack of coordination, and he kept dropping things.

My husband thought of looking at the material safety data sheet:

http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawebserver?mwsId=SSSSSuUn_zu8l00xM82G58_B4v70k17zHvu9lxtD7SSSSSS--

And all of his symptoms are listed as "potential health effects."  There are a bunch of others listed as well, but he seems to have hit most of them.

Interesting that neither the dentist nor the technician thought to give us ANY indication that there was even a remote possibility of side effects.

And on page 3:
