Great info, thanks!

cileag I would make a point of eating some protein heavy food about an hour or so before the test. First, because it is not intended to be a fasting test, so there is no point in making it one and two, I didn't think it tasted that bad, but I did feel pretty icky afterwards, and the protein will help you metabolize the sugar. I had an egg and two chicken sausages. Also, that early in the morning is the most difficult to stabilize, due to the drop in insulin in your body overnight, so when you test between 5 and 8, you have higher chance of testing high. Good luck!

allisonrose I'm pretty sure that I ate a low carb breakfast before my GTT with my second and perhaps my first as well and passed both times.

If you typically eat before 8 am then go for something low carb. If you usually haven't eaten by that time and feel you will be okay not eating then that is an option.

My HB MWs offer the GTT at ~28 weeks and I'll be having it next week (I chose to do it, since my mother and aunt were diagnosed with it, and my diet is not bad, but could be better).

Their protocol is to have you drink 50g of sugar in the form of juice/your choice of beverage an hour before they test you.  They say it's not supposed to be a fasting test, so you're welcome to eat that day, but shouldn't eat anything very carby, which might give you an artificially high number.

The issue is that my MW will be at my house at 8 am.  So, I was thinking...

Should I eat a low-carb breakfast (at, say, 6 am) or not?

I don't want a "false negative" on the test, but I don't want a false positive, either-- I'm not trying to "beat" the test, but I also don't want my levels to be unrepresentatively high.

Which would be best?  Not to eat, or to have a little breakfast 2-3 hours before the test?

Thanks!
