Breast milk is just a great thing to have around for those daily bumps or mild illnesses. Got an ailment? Treat it with breast milk!

Here is a list of other uses for breast milk (other than feeding you child of course!)

Pink eye, eye redness/soreness/puffiness – apply a few drops in the affect eye(s)
Diarrhea – breastfeeding your child helps prevent and treat diarrhea
Diaper rash – apply and allow to air dry
Cold sore – apply and allow to air dry
Warts – apply and allow to air dry
Minor cuts, burns and scrapes – apply, allow to air dry then bandage as needed
Stuffy / runny nose – squirt a few drops in each nostril
Sore / cracked nipples – apply and air dry
Ear infections – squirt a few drops in affected ear
Insect bites – apply and the itching will go away
Rashes, eczema – wash with clean water, apply milk and let air dry
Chicken pox – apply to sores and will help with itching
Sore throat – drinking breast milk will help fight the infection
Plugged tear ducts – squirt a few drops in the corner of the eye (by the nose) a few times a day
Contact lenses – dry lenses or run out of solution? Substitute breast milk, it’s sterile
Leg ulcers – apply a few drops of breast milk
Cancer – see my article on this topic for more information or research the web for recent cure of cancer and shrinking of tumors.
Breast Cancer – breastfeeding can help prevent breast cancer in the mother as she naturally produces stem cells that prevent it as she lactates. Women do not have to stop lactating. Her breast milk holds the cure for the entire family as it boosts the immune system to fight current illnesses that are anti biotic resistant.
Osteoporosis – breastfeeding may help prevent osteoporosis in the mother
Diabetes, heart disease, childhood cancers, ear infections, obesity – breastfeeding your child can help prevent these diseases. Its is also currently being used for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and in hospice centers for the elderly who cannot difest solid foods.  Good luck to all women who continue breast feeding.

Rest, lots of it. Elderflower and peppermint tea with honey. Veggie and chicken soups, no heavy foods, no milk. 

 

Most importantly for us is to make sure that all the junk gets out of the body QUICKLY. Blowing nose all the time and coughing and spitting the stuff up, no swallowing. DS is really good with this now.

Not every mother still has breastmilk, and not every mother still has children who are young enough to breastfeed. But for those young enough with mothers who have milk, yes that is a good idea.

Elderberry syrup is good.

 Firstly, I take them off all heavy foods like meat, pastas, eggs, etc., and also off sugars and milk products (which cause excess mucus that bacteria LOVE to reside in). They get smoothies and fresh produce, thin soups and broth, sometimes toast for the duration of the cold.  I have them drink as much juice or, even better, peppermint & elder flower tea as they'll take. And as everyone knows, rest.  I cuddle them on the couch to read or sleep or watch some tv.
  I make garlic oil by soaking garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil (sometimes warming it on the stove just a little) and rub that into their feet then put loose socks over it. That makes a HUGE difference in the healing time no matter what the illness.

   If you have the oil called OnGuard by DoTerra, rub that into their feet, too. OnGuard and garlic oil are a dynamic duo and I've never been displeased with their ability to help the body kick an illness quickly.

Fluids and rest are honestly the best!

 

I sometimes take a little acetaminophen at night if pain is getting to me.

We've been doing Elderberry syrup and FCLO as preventative... but we've had two colds already this year! Two in just one month. We are very active in our local AP group so we're at playdates and parks almost every day, so I suppose that just goes with the territory?

 

ETA: I did make Rosemary Gladstar's Fire Cider last weekend and that is fermenting away in the basement right now. I have REALLY high hopes for that!!

rhedin Vitamins A,C,E,and zinc all help mucous membranes function. We like to make smoothies and frozen smoothie popsicles to "vitamin up." Plus the cold of the popsicle is soothing to the throat. Hope your littles feel better soon!

I make sure my kids stay well-adjusted and take Vitamin D, eat whole foods and get plenty of sleep so that they don't get a cold in the first place.  If they do happen to get one, we just keep adjusting them, make sure they sleep LOTS, push fluids and up the Vitamin D for a few days.

We cut out all refined sugars mainly and continue with vitamins and eating vegetables and healthy foods.  I swear cutting out the sugar helps tremendously.  If any of us do get sick, it's for usually 2-3 days only about once a year.

I started a new thing this year. My DD has horrible congestion, and I run a vaporizer with thieves oil at night. I also treat with elderberry syrup acutely, on top of daily prevention with a multivitamin, 1000 IU Vitamin D, and a chewable probiotic. My DD started kindergarten and I dont think she has had a week of being well yet. Just cold after cold, but I hear that is common when they start school. All I can do is support her little body.

mamazee I just push liquids and wait them out, but maybe there's more I could be doing. One just got over a cold and the other is just starting one. And this is just the beginning of the season!
