Hey guys, I'm taking over the Spring thread. Come post your status over at http://www.mothering.com/community/t/1398153/the-fertility-challenged-one-thread-spring-2014

Thanks Xerxella for holding us down. Now you go rest up!

I think an up to date spring list would be great. This thread is great but really long.

Why does every day right now feel 48 hours long? LOL! Still got 8 days until our appointment. Argh......

AF is here and is pretty horrible this month (very crampy- lots of pain)

Yesterday:

Got the wedding photos put up on the bookcase plus we hung up a canvas print of the two of us from the wedding.

We started clearing off the catch all that is our dining room table.

Sorted some paperwork.

Moved the couch and end table down to have room for the desk and chair  that we will be building today.

Cleaned and organized the kitchen (*still need to clean out the fridge later this week)

tracyamber I will just jump in! Welcome to all! I just can't seem to keep up. Xerxella could you put everyone's stats at the beginning of the spring thread?!i am finding that that would be helpful. When changes occur everyone would be responsible to pm you of the changes as you would be the only to edit. I know it is a pain. How do you feel about that?

Afm-I am sooooo excited. My first appointment is next week and I think my husband and I already found a egg donor! I just can't wait to get started and to have another baby!

TF2B - I hope this is it for you!!!  You had such a long and ruff journey. I'm thinking of you.

Monkey - whoohoo on the heartbeat!!  I hope this one is sticky bug.

chuord Morning ladies! Man this thread moves fast wink1.gif
Welcome mainebaby smile.gif
Tifga / autumn - totally get that obsessive thing, even before the meds you spend two weeks hoping for good eggs - a week of manic bd, then two weeks of 'no I can't eat that, just in case' to your forgetful dh/dp lol!
Tifga - looking good for your iui fx!
Autumn - wow that's looking great, love your stats! How many fertilized again, our of how many?
X - hugs on the blah cycle, what are you doing this/next month?
Tf2b - prayers and hugs to you lady smile.gif
Afm - had my ultrasound check up this morning (day 6) it was two days early but I'd had a few side effects and he prefers to check (awesome doc) so on the left I had about 6 at 7.5, the right 6 at 9.0, lining was good (think he said 9?) it was 530am so like you autumn I'm not the sharpest wink1.gif
So a round dozen - fx there are some good ones! I'm guessing that's an average haul?
02-25-2014 01:00 PM
ilovemykiddos Xerxella - a spring thread sounds good to me. How are you doing today?

Tinytina - have fun putting up photos and decorating.

Tifga - fingers crossed for you.

AFM - progesterone cream is horrible. It makes me hungry and hot flashes. I don't know if this is other progesterone doing it but I am exhausted and actually napped. My iui was thee 15th.
02-25-2014 11:01 AM
tinytina We organizing our living room (new bookcase, desk, & chair). Cleaning too- kitchen today, bathroom tomorrow.. Putting up wedding photos. Only been married a year. We weren't sure how long we were going to live here but in the meantime this needs to be home.

Good luck Tifga and Autumnlaughing and everyone else.

@tifga - sounds good!

@Xerxella *hugs* and I think a spring thread is a good idea..  I'm really ready for spring...

The lab called this morning and told me that they look great + I should come in on Thursday for transfer, so that's exciting.  Looking at some of the charts for my clinic, that puts me at a likely 60% success rate for my age range!  The day 3 transfers had slightly under 50%.  I mean, we all know how little that means, but it's certainly the best chances I've ever had!

I didn't ask her for specifics... I'm barely smart enough to form words at that hour of the morning as it is.

@tinytina  I have watched more useless TV and played more solitaire in the past week or so than I had since... uhm, a long time!  I wish I was better at doing useful things while waiting... Like one of my many knitting projects, or the taxes or... if the weather here was better, I'd at least probably be able to convince myself to go for walks (and runs, but not this week...).

ETA- my fortune cookie today says "Aim high, time flies"  Smarmy fortune cookie...

tifga

Got back from 3rd ultrasound this week.

Yesterday i was 1.64 and lining .9.

Today we are 2.0 lining .99.

I did an OPK when I got home that said i surged so I guess IUI tomorrow.

Just waiting for the clinic to call.

tracyamber @Xerxella I'm sorry about this cycle. That sucks. Errr so annoying and energy taking. Big hugs to you.
02-25-2014 05:16 AM
Xerxella @toothfairy2be - Well that just sucks. Have you done any genetic testing on the losses? We've been staring at a possible immune problem and with our last IVF we did Lovenox, prednisone, intralipids, blah, blah, blah and still miscarried. But, I insisted on an embryoscopy with testing and, sure enough, it was very genetically abnormal. So, maybe the problem all along has just been old age / bad embryos. The good news with that is that there's probably a genetically competent embryo in there somewhere. It's just a matter of finding it. Have you read this blog: http://fiscafamily.wordpress.com/ ? After 6 or so losses and being treated for everything under the sun, she put in 2 chromosomally competent embryos and had one miracle little boy.

tifga - So, any update? With a 15mm follicle I would expect surge to a be a few days away. I thought they naturally surged at about 20 mm?

chuord - Come one day 7. Grow follies, grow! The recovery for my first 2 retrievals was a breeze. For my last one I was pretty achy and sore for quite a few days. About the article, I would guess that anyone who didn't get a + until 2 weeks after AF was due simply misjudged their ovulation time. Even the most regular people can have an unusually long cycle. And, you can have a surge and get all the signs of ovulation without ovulating. IF, she really did ovulate when she thought she did, she could either be using really crappy HPTs or be one of the few people that doesn't metabolize HCG into her urine. But, you have to have HCG in your bloodstream to tell the corpus luteum to continue to produce progesterone to stop your period. If there's no HCG in your blood, you're body will shed the endometrial lining (your period) and start the cycle all over again.

mainebaby - Good luck on starting your cycle!!!! What your protocol look like? (I love this stuff! orngtongue.gif )

tinytina - Thursday is so far away....

AFM - So, no great news today. The second line on the HPT continues to be annoyingly absent. I'll order my meds for my next cycle today.

PS - Unless anyone has any objections, I'll probably start a new thread in the next few days for the Spring. flowersforyou.gif

So true Autumnlaughing- I feel like I am finding it way too easy to put my life on hold right now too. I am glad it isn't just me though.

Welcome Mainebaby!

Xerxella- we are grateful that the insurance is helping too.

AF is here too!

You all are full of so much information and also make me feel a lot less alone- its also reassuring to hear about what we might be doing soon.

Our appt at the clinic is next Thursday- trying to stay busy in the meantime.

tracyamber @Xerxella thinking about you!!!!!!
Eta. Interesting article.

mainebaby

Thanks for the welcome, X! Hope all is positive with your upcoming test. Thanks to all posting info relating to #s of eggs retrieved vs fertilized & made it to blast phase; good Q, Autumn.

AFM: Starting acupuncture next week & Follistim on Saturday!

02-24-2014 05:35 PM
ilovemykiddos Xerxella I'm still holding out hope for you. Thank you too for the iui stats prob same as ivf stats info.
02-24-2014 02:33 PM
chuord Xerxella - wow that article is harsh! One lady on mothering didn't get her bfp till 2 weeks after AF was due - I'm guessing that article is right, but as always there are anomalies - people who don't get much hcg in their bloodstream etc... I'm holding the hope!
Autumn laughing - I agree, thanks everyone the info had been wonderful - regardless of outcome it gives us a realistic outlook smile.gif also I totally agree with the doing this with other kids would be nuts! I'm fine with just me and dh - I can get him to feed the cat lol.
Thanks for the info, I'll be sedated too, but I just wanted to know what to expect afterwards - so everything you said helps... Have you heard how the eggs went with fertilization?
Tifga - I hadn't thought of bribery either wink1.gif
Kewpie - how long till dh gets his tests? Is this whole process less stressful when you know it works for you? Or harder with the kids?
Afm - day 4 gonal shots doing fine aside from a few side effects - low grade permanent headache, fuzzy brain, achy ovaries and everything tastes weird lol. Getting scanned on day 7 of gonal... To see where it's all at - come on lots of follies!
02-24-2014 10:14 AM
Autumnlaughing

@chuord - they knocked me out for the retrieval, so I don't really know!  Beforehand, I was a little uncomfortable (due to volume of follicles) and the day afterward wasn't too bad - I took a few acetaminophen, and there was a little bit when I wished I hadn't & could have taken the pain meds they suggested, but it really wasn't bad.  Today I'm a little crampy + nauseated, but I guess that's the estrogen supplement.  Oh, at the risk of TMI, my "bits" were Not Amused - I think just dryness + maybe a little bit of yeast from the abx?  But I react to EVERYTHING, so it's no real surprise..

@JoyfamMama - I hope the test went well?

@Xerxella - :(  but I'm hoping for tomorrow.

@tifga - that's super cute. I hadn't thought about bribing them...

Thanks everyone for your "stats" - it really illustrates what a long road so many people here have been down :(   But.. learning more each time, right?

I do feel lucky that I don't have kids while going through this - I was able to just lounge in bed all weekend.  Extra kudos to those of you doing this for #2 (or #3, or more!)

02-24-2014 05:02 AM
Xerxella BFFN this morning. I guess it was just the trigger. It could still go + tomorrow (10 dpo) and have a chance, but after that if it goes + it'll probably be a loss.

  • Xerxella Thank you for all that information it was so useful.
  •
  • AFM: IUI should be in the next couple days. Because last month I had a small follicle I am apparently (i didn't find out until after my ultrasound yesterday) to be checked everyday until serge. But yesterday was 1.5 follicle and .9 triple lining. So I'm happy. Should serge today or tomorrow. Of course husband is taking all the credit for happy follicle, he bribed it you see. If it decides to be good and grow us a baby it gets jelly beans every birthday before dinner.
  • Husbands can be so cute.

My first cycle, we got 5 eggs, 4 were mature enough for ICSI, all 4 fertilized.  We transferred 2 on day 3.  The remaining 2 did not make it to blastocyst, and so they were not frozen.  One of the embryos transferred stuck, but miscarried just before I entered 2nd trimester.

Second cycle, we got 4 eggs.  All 4 were mature enough for ICSI and all 4 fertilized.  We transferred 2 on day 3 and those were my twins.  The remaining 2 embryos were frozen.

tracyamber @toothfairy2be oh my!!! You have been through so much since this spring! Hugs to you. I hope theses last two embryos are " the ones" ! Please keep us updated more often . We could all use some of your courage!!!!!!!!!!
chuord[/@ yep, I probably will know more than the re, especially with Xerxella around <img src="http://files.mothering.com/images/smilies/wink1.gif" class="bbcode_smiley" /> I would totally be obsessing over those positive tests. When is your beta again? Chuord it sounds so nice where you are. I am jealous. I live on the oregon coast and it's usually nice but rainy the last week! Glad the melatonin is working for you. I was going to suggest Epsom salt but the mag. Is a bitter. Do you follow wellness mama? I like her a lot.<br /> Okay<br /> Afm hi to all and soon I will remember everyone's cycle!<br /> <br /> My computer or mothering is having issues so excuse the mess of the message.

chuord Thank tf2b! Wow when you string it all together it's a long haul... I've been thinking about you often and wondering how you were doing... Fx for these last few transfers and that miracle baby... Your determination is amazing xxx

Thought I'd pop in with my IVF stats just for more info-

First IVF- 12 eggs, 6 mature- ICSI, 5 fertilized- 3 blasts , expanded AA (miscarriage at 10w), expanded BB & early BB (miscarriage at 8w)

Second IVF - 16 eggs, 13 mature- ICSI, 12 fertilized- 6 blasts, expanded AA (chemical), hatchingAA & hatchingAB (failed implantation), hatchingAB (chemical), 2 frozen- expandedBB, earlyBB

We are going to transfer our last 2 once I'm back to regular cycles from this last chemical. I am guessing at this point I have a problem with egg quality. My doctor would like us to do PGD with out next cycle. I am still prayerful that one of our last 2 embryos will be genetically normal and we will have a miracle take home baby. This last miscarriage (chemical, whatever you want to call it, I made it with rising betas to 5 weeks), was a crushing blow as it was a 'perfect' cycle. 10mm lining, intralipids, lovenox, prednisone, baby aspirin, estrogen, progesterone anything we could have done to prevent an autoimmune related miscarriage and it happened anyway. Makes my doctor think it is possibly bad embryos. We have been through a lot our first 2 miscarriages the fetus measured perfectly, yolk sac was not enlarged or oddly shaped, just the sac wasn't growing we we figured it was autoimmune, and now this. So, we will save for PGD while preparing for a final transfer of the remaining embryos from our second IVF. I will continue intralipids and lovenox with my next transfer.

chuord Tracey - yay for you doing the oil pulling smile.gif I was slack and gave up (looking to get back to it) I just find even though I'm at home I can only fit in so much routine lol... I have this feeling that by the time your appointment gets here you'll know more than the re wink1.gif
Xerxella - thanks for sharing your ivf stats, it's great to see how it varies from follicles to blasts... Re oil pulling (lol probably best to google) essentially it's taking a good oil like coconut or sunflower - about a spoon full and putting it in your mouth, you use your tongue and suction to 'pull' the oil between your teeth. It pulls the toxins out from under the gums and they get trapped in the oil, do when you spit and rinse after you feel a lot cleaner. Need to do it for 2 mins.
Re the tests - can't wait to see what happens tomorrow wink1.gif it looks promising and I'm fx for you! I'm now confused with the hcg boosters, people generally say it leaves your body around 1000iu per day... My last booster 1500iu was on day 10 and I still had a frer squinter on 16dpo the same day I got a negative blood. I told the re I thought it was another chem, he said it was more likely still the booster... My progesterone at blood test was 44 - would that have been normal for a nothing cycle (with progesterone pessaries) anyway not important just interested lol
Little kind - thanks for the love smile.gif I think autumn and X explained the estrogen / soy thing well - my natural lady said to stay away for now, but we've spent do much time balancing my hormones so don't want to undo it smile.gif
Oxford - my body seems to be adjusting, day 1 of gonal was the worst, ovary pain is still there at times but hasn't kept me awake again... Does anyone get a mild headache from the stims? Fx for you on this cycle - can't wait to see what your next monitoring shows!
Autumn - woohoo!! I would be beside myself if I had 10 that fertilized smile.gif hope that you hear more good news and are keeping your sanity smile.gif bet it's nice to be off the meds smile.gif oh and retrieval did it hurt much? I'm scared of that most of all...
Sour ire - wow 31 eggs, I'm guessing things were very sore for a while there! Can I ask as well ivf ladies how you decided between putting one or two blasts back?
Joyfamamma - waiting to hear what happens... Hoping it's working for you! Maybe you should do blood test?
Afm - cd4, day 3 of gonal... Doing alright, melatonin is such a relaxing med, I've also gone back to taking magnesium supps - the great relaxer and I'm feeling like I'm on holiday... We went to the beach yesterday (I'm in summer in Aus) and after a walk and lunch we took the time to sit /lie in the sea breeze and snooze - so good for the soul! Xerxella I'm assuming my egg retrieval will be similar to yours (given my age) I'm not expecting more than half to grow - but staying objective it's such fascinating stuff!
Hugs to anyone I missed (on my phone) this thread is really exciting right now!
02-23-2014 12:58 PM
JoyfamMama Hi ladies... Lots happening here. I've been lurking when I can because we're moving again in a few days and I have to pack everything up by myself in a house with 6 kids. I refuse to pack DHs clothes tho. They can get left here if he doesn't do it. Lol.

Chuord - I was sad for you, but hopefully this will be your cycle.

Mo - I was sad for you too. Like the others said, progesterone of 6 means you most likely did ovulate, but 6 is too low for a pregnancy. Even my controlled, preventing cycles - this is my experience, granted - she wants it above 12, and closer to 20 when I'm on shots and trying. I mentioned before that mine was 4.88 last month, and anything 5 and under is considered non-viable, even thought I most likely conceived. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you, just in case no one mentions how low yours was FOR PREGNANCY.

X - we're in the same place!!

Afm, I thought I was out.... And I may still be, but I've now officially missed my period. My LP has been consistently 16-17 days for most of the last year, so I'm not counting 14 dpo as AF due date, but 17 dpo. I had 7 dpo blood work done 2 Thursdays ago, and Called Tuesday of last week begging for results. I still haven't heard from the d*mn Dr office, and there not open again to Tues. My temp went down for 2 days, so I expected af yesterday or today, but nothing so far. I've tested out the hcg. On Friday morning with fmu, a digital was negative and a Walmart $.88 with the purple sides was a complete squinter. Still there though. The Walmart one on Monday was light, but Def positive. So I'll test again in the morning, if no AF amd well see, I guess...

@Sourire + @Xerxella - thank you!  @adiejan had a bit of a different situation.. but somehow the personal stories are reassuring.

The doctor FINALLY called this AM - 10 fertilized!  So that's exciting.  She seemed to think I'd be doing a day 3 transfer, but I think they prefer a day 5, if they look good?  She did say they'd call by 8:30 that day.  Dh can't be here both days..(he works 100 miles away).. I've asked that he take me if it's day 5 (Thursday).  We'll see...

@Sourire - I'm glad to hear that everything is going well now!  Liliana is a beautiful name :)

@Xerxella - that's totally obsession worthy - I don't feel like I could make a good call as to which one might be darker, but 8 days seems like a while for the trigger hcg to still be hanging out.  Not that I know...

@chuord I'm curious about oil pulling, too.  And for both you and Oxford - while I wish you weren't sore, it sounds like a good sign!

02-23-2014 08:33 AM
Xerxella Will you guys obsess with me? So last month I tested on 9dpo and the test was completely negative. No doubt about it. I did a trigger last month and a trigger this month. So because I obsess (and the dollar store carries HPTs) I started testing already.

I know the answer is well, we'll see. So, I'll test tomorrow and if it's + I know it's real.

Warning: Falsely Positive Pregnancy Tests Ahead! (Click to show)

Here's where they are so far:

ETA : I know it's positive. I'm just worried that its still the trigger.
02-23-2014 08:28 AM
Xerxella Chuord - What's oil pulling? That sounds really interesting. There's NPs out there that talk about ways to cure a cavity mostly with natural oils, but I haven't done the research on it. I would think some things can help an early cavity but once it gets to a certain point I think there's no easy fix. I definitely think poor oral health can lead to a lot of problems. (I'm good about brushing and flossing, but not always getting to checkups). I read a study about gingivitis being tied to miscarriage.

Anyways,,,,, good luck on starting stims!!!! Super exciting! Did they do a baseline u/s and bloodwork?

Little kind - I haven't done any research on this, but I would imagine its because its a phyto estrogen. So if you have low estrogen or low estrogen in balance to your other hormones it could help you. If you're estrogen dominant, then it could hurt your chances. I would think that if you temp you could look at your temps. If they're high all cycle you may benefit from soy. If they're low all cycle you may be estrogen dominant. But that's just me thinking off the top of my head.

Autumn - 13 is great!!!! What's your fertilization report? Hoping to have 13, but 7 or so is more realistic. KUP!!!

Here was my fert reports (I think):
1) 7 visible follicles, 9 eggs, 6 mature, 3 fertilized, but all 3 made it to blastocyst. 2AA and 2AB on day 5 and one 2BB on day 6. Froze all.
2) 13 visible follicles, 10 eggs, 8 mature, 4 fertilized, but all 4 made it to blast on day 6. 2 at 2AA and 2 at 2BB. Froze all.
3) 9 visible follicles, 9 eggs, 7 mature, 4 fertilized, 1 disintegrated on day 2 and the other 3 were transferred on day 3. They were all perfect, 2 at 8 cell, one at 10 cell. It resulted in a BFP, but miscarriage of a chromosonally incompetent bean. Complete triploidy 69XXX.

Tracy - good luck at your consultation in a couple weeks!!!! I'm excited and hopeful for you too!!!!

Oxford - Yeah for being done with Clomid!!!!! Hopefully, you'll start to get O signs soon. Are you doing another doc appointment before O? I did IUI, so I don't know if there are any good ones in there or not!
02-23-2014 07:31 AM
Sourire Autumn - I'm a lurker here but I can give you some stats from my IVF cycle. I ended up with OHSS so I had a ton of eggs but maybe not the best quality... 31 eggs retrieved, 29 were mature, 19 fertilized (we didn't do ICSI), 8 embryos frozen. I was not allowed to have a fresh transfer due to the OHSS, so we did a freeze all cycle. Of the 8 frozen we've used 4 so far. One did not survive defrosting, and we had 3 single-embryo FETs. 1 FET was a BFN, 1 was a BFP followed by a miscarriage at 6 weeks, and 1 was the baby that I'm pregnant with now.
