sillysapling Most of the people I know right now are from work, and they're in the exact same crappy situation as me. Okay, most are smart enough not to have had kids yet but that's another story... In my family, though, yes? I feel like the only one out of all my cousin's who's "screwed up". (which is actually silly because all of my eldest cousins had unplanned pregnancies when they were NOT in a position to handle it... Being too poor for kids but having htem anyways is kind of my family's thing. :/)

It helps to remember that, when I was my kid's age, my parents were on welfare. My mom didn't have a job for most of my life and after I moved out and she no longer got child support, she was REALLY badly off for quite a few years. She's got a pretty decent job now at least. I don't think either of my parents have much saved up for retirement and I have no idea what's going to happen in the future, since I'm an only child. This isn't the life I wanted, this isn't how I thought my life was going to be, but we're not dead in the water and we've got a few years to get on track. This is actually the best time to be poor, in terms of kiddo, because he doesn't need much and he's too young to realize that he doesn't have a lot of things others do. My partner and I both grew up somewhat poor (never went hungry, thankfully, but definitely not middle class) and are okay. I don't even want to be a millionaire, as long as I can keep a roof on my head, food on the table, and some small comforts- I'm happy.

mommaof3boz Do you sometimes fell everyone you know is financially better off than you? I feel like we are the only broke ones. I know its not true but it feels like it

happyhats Im so happy that our library system did away with late fees. I know Id be in debt otherwise! lol. Doing a few odds and ends like scouring a burnt pot, soaking the brita filter, etc. The kiddos were outside playing with bugs and picking flowers and now theyre climbing a tree with friends. It will be bath time soon! dd wanted to make paper chains but she may have forgotten.
frugalmama Quick update from the library - *hugs to all* BTW.

~DD is better thankfully. Spent a week with her sick though.

~peeved at our public library system. Tried to set up a payment plan but they wouldn't accept it unless I could pay 10% each month {which is more than I can afford right now} plus they were quite rude about it. They just got bumped to the BOTTOM of my debt payment list. I want to pay it off, but at that cost it's cheaper to just buy books at thrift shops / PBS.

Gratefuls:

~Had a unexpected check show up for $200 from a class action that underpaid a while back. SOOOO glad. Going to go towards bills.
~Sweater business is going well

zebra15 As someone who 'roommated' before, I would advise against it. Nothing ever worked out and I ended up getting stuck with more than my fair share of the bills. Not only is there rent, there is power, cable, internet, groceries etc. Plus all the non food stuffs a household needs that no one ever wants to pay for. I vote for staying at home, finishing school and not messing with the insurance.

elliha About your friend and possible flaking and the insurance, can you officially stay with your parents and get your mail to them but in fact live with her and have just her on the contract?
heyxxmcfly I am staying with them, but I dont save much at all while here. And im not sure she would flake but she's not a very decisive person sometimes
Yesterday 07:07 PM
sillysapling If you think she'll flake and leave you high and dry, that doesn't sound like a good idea unless you get a place that you can afford on your own just in case.

Would your parents let you stay there while you worked, then you could save up money?
heyxxmcfly I'm taking after all you lovely ladies, and I'm updating from the library

So all of this stuff this my friend (PA) is that she's homeless now that she's away from her xbf. We had always talked about getting an apartment together so now that she -needs- a place to stay she's trying to put that plan in motion. We found a place that's managable in the short term, but I'm worried that she's going to flake out and I'm going to be stuck. I also learned that if i move out of my parent's house that I may lose my car insurance. I have to keep insurance because I have already been down that road and I don't really like not having that security blanket. I'm actually thinking of stopping my schooling (again) because I feel like I can work more and earn more in the short term and go back to school when DS is all "grown" up and not in such a costly daycare.

I guess my question would be, should I move out with PA and stop school like I want to or should I just stay at home and "save" money. I'm not saving much at home because I still pay for everything myself...

Oh lordy. Speaking of DS, I should go get him.
He's been so very tired lately. I'm looking for a second job even though my primary job pays well when I get good hours.

Much love & big hugs. If it's not one thing it's another

mamabear0314 Hi everyone, I'm around. I got my own place (yay) but now I'm super broke. I'm a tad anxious about it but we will survive as we always do. I got my oldest into public school. I was so anxious about it but he seems to be doing really well. My middle child is in head start and loves it. My mom is still watching the baby MWF and he goes to moms day out TR. I'm struggling with my classes though. :/
XDH is trying to use his crazies to get out of the army which would totally screw us with Corbin's therapy and such.

mamarhu I had a pretty good experience with bad luck today.

heyxxmcfly Im not quite sure how I'm doing. I thought that things were perking up and starting to actually fit, then a dear friend of mine lost her living space to an abusive bf. So now I'm stuck in a place where I want to help her, but dont know if I would screw myself in the meantime. If I get a chance, I'll explain more and ask for advice.

Sending big hugs to everyone though. ♡♡♡

Ours too! It's nothing major but every time dh gets home we buy a part or two and fix something then something else breaks. Some has been routine maintenance but in the last few weeks we've done transmission filter, oil filter, front and rear brakes, tie rod ends on driver and passenger side, mass air flow sensor and replaced the window switch in the passenger side. Today I replaced the window switch in the driver side. Now we have to still do the windshield wiper motor, dimmer switch, something else with the interior lights and the EGR valve.... that I know of. The van and I are having a sketchy time in our relationship right now.

I'm sending good vibes out to everyone and hoping things improve for all. It's really busy around here in the fall with soccer season and the holidays. We're doing okay. Just working out the kinks in the vehicles and doing some cleaning and decluttering.

I noticed in your signature that you're pagan/interested in metaphysical stuff. I don't know if you do any work for financial well-being, but I can give a few suggestions if you want. Everything actually went to crap when we moved and my stuff got misplaced in it, before then we were never great but we also were never at risk. (although I wasn't doing loads of work towards it, I'm actually impressed how well what little I did kept our heads above water)

We've actually finished about a week of intensive negativity clearing to get rid of the gunk that was keeping bad luck coming our way and I'm working on clearing some blocks of my own. It's not 100% perfect, but things are definitely on an up-swing and I expect them to continue.

happyhats justmama, can they give her a rescue inhaler? When I was a teenager I got a horrible respitatory illness that gave me so much sinus pressure I almost burst my ear drums from blowing my nose, and I needed an inhaler bc I couldnt walk from one side of our small school to the next without it.

Its been a rough week here, for nonfinancial reasons. My hubby works at a fairly small place, and since hes social everyone is his friend/acquaintence. There was an unexpected death and a huge car accident involving a couple workers and the death of an underage edestrian. All in a week. Add to that Im pmsing so Im lethargic and headachey. Boo.

justmama Speaking of sick kids.....ugh. mine were sick with hand foot and mouth 3 weeks ago. Then it was that tummy bug. Now my youngest has been ill for over 2 weeks with some respiratory thing. It was a mild cold that turned into wheezing amd a constant cough. She's home from school at least today and tomorrow. Her asthma was bad as a little one ans last winter she did a lot better. I was so encouraged. But already now she's on oral steroids plus a twice daily inhaled steroid now plus albuterol for wheezing. Right back to how we were. If she doesn't sound better in a day or two, they want to talk about MORE meds. :/ poor kid can't leave the house because it's too far from her nebulizer. I'm supposed to start a new job Wednesday. Ugh. It never ends.

I love credit unions vs a bank. So much nicer and easier to deal with!

frugalmama Checking in quickly from the library again. My dd is sick but getting better thankfully.

Another vote for ZenniOptical here - my glasses came from there {$15} and have held up wonderfully. I am hard on my glasses too & have been surprised at how well they have held up.

Hugs to all - trying to be quick so can't reply to everyone

Gratefuls:

~Sweater business is kicking off! Should get paid for my 1st box this week.
~DD is getting better & I actually had medicine for her already thanks to a sale

Agreed! I have also found that the online glasses I have purchased actually seem to be more comfortable and they seem to last long which kind of surprised me...

$15 would only be for an uncomplicated single lens prescription. However, the online places are still overall cheaper. I have gotten a pair of progressives for around $200, when the local places the same prescription is closer to $500.

Check into low income/sliding scale student dental clinics. I know our university offers dental work at a discounted rate because it's done by the resident dental students (under the supervision of the professor). That may be an option for cheaper dental work.

I'm in a very tough spot in my life due to a 2.5 yr long divorce involving a lot of attorney expenses, an ex doing all he can to not pay support (I was a sahm of 5 yrs when he left) and him barely existing when it comes to helping with my kiddos.
It's been a very difficult couple of years and I only wish I found this group sooner! You are all so inspiring to follow. I've met an amazing man who I'm currently expecting a babe with (huge surprise, what timing). We have 3 kiddos already between us. We are working very hard to rebuild our lives/build our life together but it's not easy. I'm also now dealing with barely working due to some pregnancy related issues so it's given me time to read through this thread and find some hope.
Anyways that's all I've got for now but I wanted to say each and every one of you are amazing!
