Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I will be trying to find a family doctor at some point soon. I assume I will just go to whomever that ends up being.

Cheers,

Natalie

gillibean I'm in Ontario so I don't know how birth certs may be different. If it's at all possible to be seen by a doctor afterwards it will save a lot of hassle with the birth cert.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. It looks like your post might have been missed so I'm bumping it up for attention. :bump: Anyone have experiences to share?

Hello all,

So, I am in a situation where I need to be prepared for an unassisted birth because of where I live and the fact that my last birth was very fast. My doc has just "dropped" me, and I have been told to find someone closer to me (although she was the ONLY doctor I interviewed that I was even remotely comfortable with). I live 30 minutes outside of a major city, and around 50 minutes from the closest delivering hospital. We have an ER in our town, but they don't do the baby thing. So the doc I have been seeing said, don't bother driving, just call an ambulance once I feel I am in labour.

Having just been dropped, and being told to not bother trying to get to a hospital myself, I am considering just doing my own prenatal checks (after the next ultrasound, which is in a couple of weeks). I've done UP before and am comfortable with it. My fiance is rather supportive of it. As is my sister in law (and my mom).

I am also considering the possibility of oopsing, and just calling the ambulance right before baby is born (as an option for assuaging any fears I might have...but to be honest I don't really have any about the birth itself. My only fears are about getting a birth certificate afterwards as we do travel a lot).

Has anyone done a UC in Canada (even in Alberta perhaps?) and have any experiences to share?

Thanks in advance!
