I didn't think about genitals being swollen. I thought that was just something that happens during labor, but maybe it happens in utero. Interesting.

Probably easier to say for sure it's a boy than for sure it's a girl, but then I don't know the circumstances of your ultrasound where you found out. Our routine ultrasound isn't until 22 weeks, so I'm guessing that as long as the baby cooperates, we will be sure by then. I would just hate for you to buy all girl stuff and OOPS, surprise! on the due date.
Thank you for your concern and we have our regular ultrasound with our ob/gyn at 19 weeks and will confirm gender. My husband's sister used the same place for all 3 of her kids and all 3 were correct so I feel pretty good but the sex of the baby really doesn't matter all that much to me as long as our baby is healthy. I have heard the opposite.. that both genders look swollen and that if it's a girl it's easier to tell since they can both look like boy. guess it depends on who you talk to ha ha.

Valerie11 I'm excited about either a boy or a girl, since I like the names I picked for each. I feel like I'll be more sad for the name I won't get to use than that I won't be having one or the other.
09-14-2014 02:16 PM
sarahjs The possibility of disappointment is one of the biggest reasons I don't want to find out what the baby is. I don't have a strong desire for either a boy or a girl and have pros and cons for both. I think it would be great for my husband to have a son, but I also wouldn't want to only have boys. I would like at least one girl, but then I also worry she will inherit my female issues. So either way, I will have at least a little bit of disappointment. That sounds awful, doesn't it?! I just want to stick to being surprised at birth and hope that there will be no room for any disappointment with a new baby in my arms.
09-14-2014 06:04 AM
dentonmidwife I have three awesome boys. Each time, I wanted a girl. But I have quickly got over any disappoint. I have found with 2-4 that it has been easier to wait until baby is here on my emotions. You can't help but love them at that point.
09-13-2014 04:57 PM
jodieanneanton @bren94 , with my 3rd, I wanted another girl... BADLY. I was a mother of girls, I would say. I thought boys were scary. But you know what?!!? When number 3 came out a boy (we were surprised), I was overjoyed and I have such an amazing bond with him! He is so funny, sensitive and sweet. A very loving child. There is definitely something special between a mother and son, too, I have discovered.
09-13-2014 05:29 AM
happyday8598 And you will love him even more when you meet him! I was hoping both of my boys were girls. Boo. But you know what? I got over it (RIGHT away, and then again) when we would hang out with girls... those toddler years!! I always felt so blessed to not have to listen to the whining and bossing that I would hear from every girl we would hang out with. Of course, now I DO want a girl, but only because I've done the boy thing twice already, and it would be sweet to experience the alternative.

Congrats on your newfound knowledge! How exciting, and another level for you to feel a connection from! Boys truly are wonderful, and adventurous and playful and sweet and soft and loving... It's what you put into them that help to mold them into lovely little people pals.

Hey everyone! My name is Bridget. I'm 38 and expecting my 7th child in late Jan/early Feb. My others have been around the 37 week mark so I'm expecting baby 7 will probably follow along! I live near Yorktown, VA and I'm a homebirth midwife (CPM/LM). This will be my husband's first child and it took us around 5 months of TTC (digital OPKs, charting). My other children range in age from 18 down to 7.. 3 girls and 3 boys. We found out around 11 weeks that our baby is a boy and we're all very excited. (I had the Harmony test done).

I definitely plan to have another peaceful waterbirth at home. I have pics of my family on my business website at www.evahomebirth.com

I live on a small family farm that we're steadily getting more and more "settled". It has been a great project!

tracyamber @Milk8shake
Happy to be joined by a fellow trouble maker I too will probably only go 37 weeks as well due to uterine rupture. We are bump buddies and birth buddies. !!!!!

jodieanneanton @Milk8shake , Congratulations! We overlapped slightly on the TTCAL boards a while back, but you probably don't remember me. (I was mostly a lurker and didn't come out until you had stopped posting over there.) I am so happy for you and hope all goes well this time. You have been through so much! Congrats again.

DuchessTergie Milk8shake, I'm rooting for you and your babe! Welcome to the DDC.

Milk8shake Name: Jayde
Age: 31
Due Date: "Officially", mid Feb, but it's actually likely to be late Jan. I won't be allowed to go much past 37 weeks.
Location: Australia
How long it took you to get your BFP: We've been trying for 5 years.
What number child this is for you: #1 hopefully. This is my eighth pregnancy, with seven miscarriages.
Family (spouse, other children, pets, etc.): My husband and our two incredibly spoiled dogs.
Baby's gender (hopes/guesses): Honestly, healthy boy OR girl is fine. DH would love a boy.
Birth plans/preferences: Scheduled c section due to a uterine abnormality. Whatever results in a healthy, living baby.
Anything else you would like to share: Terrified to be joining a DDC. This is my longest and most promising pregnancy so far, but it still feels so foreign to think it might actually be successful.

sarahjs Hi all! I've been reading here for a few weeks and decided to finally join the conversation. I'm in my 12th week now.

Name: Sarah

Age: 34

Due Date: February 20

Location: Detroit-area, MI

How long it took you to get your BFP: 3rd cycle of trying, but was totally surprised as my husband was out of the country the week I ovulated. I think what happened was that I ovulated a couple days early, and there were some lingering swimmers from the day he left.

What number child this is for you: 1st (2nd pregnancy, miscarried once last year)

Family: Husband (married almost 4 years) and 1 cat

Baby's gender (hopes/guesses): I would prefer not to find out, but my husband wants to know. We are both thinking it's a girl, but don't have a preference either way.

Birth plans/preferences: hospital birth with a midwife, planning for med-free.

Anything else you would like to share: We had an early ultrasound and saw a blob with a fluttering heart around 6.5 weeks (it had been planned as follow-up from a surgery). I had some spotting a few weeks ago and got nervous since my miscarriage last year was at 11 weeks, but never saw a heartbeat or even had hcg tested to make sure things were progressing with that pregnancy. My first midwife appointment was at the end of July, and I got to see another quick ultrasound of my baby moving all around with a strong heartbeat. I definitely feel more positive this time around (never felt pregnant with the miscarriage) and have had a few symptoms, but nothing too awful!
