baybee It's amazing how insidious the desire to cut genitals is. I live in a province where the College of Physicians and Surgeons is strongly against routine infant circ, it's not funded on the medical plan and it has dropped to 10%. I still am asked to go on parenting boards where fierce arguments are going on about the subject. Even in the face of strong medical advice against, so many women ignore that and seek out private circumcisors. It boggles the mind.

mamakay I would not at all be surprised if in the past 3 years it's plummeted to under 55%.

Gatsby There is a more recent version of this study, published in 2005 with 2002 circumcision statistics (here). The overall rate for 2002 was 60.1 percent (down from 62.4 in 2000), with rates ranging from a high of 81.0 percent in the Midwest to a low of 32.6 percent in the West.

Eman'smom If I'm reading it right the most recent data from that study is 99 where 65% was about right, it was 60/40 when ds was born in 2001. I believe 2003 was 55/45.

Nathan1097 I thought it was 65% for a while overall and one year they found it was 59%. I've never heard it as "50/50" but that its getting close TO it, if the trend continues. Also, it depends where you live because in some regions its much higher- I think the Midwest (where I live) is one of the highest.

NYCVeg So, out of curiosity, where did everyone get that "just over 50%" statistic? That's the one I've heard quoted most often on the board, and the one that I've been repeating to others, but the rates actually seem significantly higher than that.

Microsoap For those of you desiring more updated statistics, I found this just now while searching the Boston's Children's Museum off-site links. I posted it hoping it helps anyone.
