beemama Congrats on your dh's job, Katie!

We dtd once at 3 wks PP, & it was pretty nice... but I'm terrified of getting pg again! I've already had EWCM and w/my first pg I got AF back at 8weeks PP even tho dd was EBF.
I don't know what to do for BC, the only option seems charting to avoid but I don't want to be slave to the basal thermometer, I did that for so long when I was TTC.

~Katie~ Yeah no dtd here either especially after the dream I had last night. I dreamt that when Liam was 3 months old, I somehow managed to give birth again to a boy who looked exactly like him but with reddish hair and freckles

We got some great news as far as a job goes. Andrew was offered a national guard position doing recruiting here in the town we live, included in his 2nd LT pay is a housing allowance as well which is GREAT. The position lasts until September 1st, after which he would have to reapply for the position. He would also have the opportunity to go to officer schooling and get an active duty position if any seats are left. I'm just glad he had the contacts in order to get this position otherwise we would have been SOL. I started looking at houses today since we'll be moving January 1st, some pretty good prospects to call about tomorrow.

My 6 week checkup is wednesday so we'll see how much more Liam has grown, I'm thinking he's somewhere over 11lbs but probably more since he always shocks me with his weight gain. He's already in 3 month clothes!

As for my little guy, he's now 12lbs 3oz. He's known at his pediatrician's as The Chow Hound. The odd thing is that he's only grown an inch since he was born but he's growing sideways. Is anyone else's kid doing this?
Yes I dont know what he weighs now, but he was up two pounds at his 2 week appt and only 1/2"

on top of parenting, this week and last week we had home work done. we had our kitchen counters replaced and then this week we had the entire first story of our house refloored with hardwood. it was a little insane and i have TONS of clean up work now. the craziest thing, the babe slept through the insanely LOUD noises!!!!! it was massive noise pollution and she slept through it all.
Wehad severeal hundred square feet of hardwood put in the house in August. I totally understand the noise pollution.

I so want to post more but I am being called by a little one....

My first son would only fall asleep while nursing, and it used to drive me crazy. Sean, luckily, will fall asleep while we just hold him, which I take as a good sign since my first boy never would even do that. We also let Sean have a pacifier, which my other 2 didn't have. I'm with you on not wanting him to get dependent on nursing to sleep only.

OMG! I soooo wanna DTD

but I have a rule of thumb, not till 5 weeks minimum but man my hormones are raging!
10-09-2007 02:21 PM
IntuitiveJamie I also want this babe to have other ways to fall asleep then at the boob. It worked out okay with my first son as I really had the time to nurse him to sleep, but it left me drained (no pun intended) sometimes. As well no one else could ever put him to sleep. I dunno, I just think it's wise for my family to have a baby that can fall asleep in other ways, possibly for other ppl, (well really only dh).
Things are good with little Wyatt. Sorry I haven't ever posted pictures, but I'm feeling to lazy to deal with photo bucket and I really don't like pics of my family to be somewhere online that other ppl can get to and steal. It just wierds me out. BUt anyways, Wyatt never lost any weight so that's good. He seems to just be a very easy baby. We have had some times of crying and scrunching up his little legs and lots of gas and a gurgling belly and so I'm starting to wonder if he has an allergy to something. My first son is allergic to dairy so I am on the lookout for the same thing. I haven't made any decisions yet, but I'm so hoping that's not it. It's such a pain.

As far as DTD, I am no where near that, but last time I was horny as I'll get out by a couple weeks pp It was odd. But we DTD at prob. 4 weeks and this was after an all natural vag. delivery and it was no prob. Just took it slow and I don't remember it hurting at all. So good luck to those ready for it! I'm sure you dh's will be happy happy happy!!

maylea_moon Haven't DTD yet only really because we have a 3 year old that we co-sleep with (as well as the baby) and we're currently staying with my father so we have nowhere to do it! When we are finally able to, Im not worried about it. Didn't tear at all and I'll be 6 weeks PP on Monday. And even though I exclusively breastfeed I am absolutely paranoid about pregnancy and I don't get my IUD inserted until the 29th.

I've also caved into the pacifier. For me, only having the one breast, I honestly can't sit (w/ back/neck pain) for hrs on end.. I've also found my body to be aggravated via sitting and holding a nursing baby in the same position allllllllll day. Also, Gavin is a screamer to the point that you think he is physcially hurt, but no he's just loud. We usually use it to "buy" some time. I know you'll think I"m paranoid, but dh and I are making sure we have alternate ways of putting him to sleep, other than me nursing him to sleep all the time. When I had to wean Noah for chemo, it was so hard, probably the hardest thing I've done in my life. So we want to give this baby other options of falling asleep. At times I don't let him fall asleep on the breast, but will rock or what we call "bounce" him to sleep.. I personally can't have another baby who only knows to fall asleep by nursing.

mighty-mama Hiya..

Man I haven't posted here in awhile. Gavin is up to 9.5lbs. And he is so beautiful.. He's such a nosey little baby. I have to admit, I had a tarot card reading when my sister died, from a mama here.. Little background, my sister and I both got reading from this mama before we were diagnosed, and the reading was amazingly accurate. So I got a reading and she told me about this baby.. She told me he feels like he's "indigo/crystal child".. And although that is all new to me, the behavior of an infant indigo child, seems to fit a lot of Gavin's characterictics.. So it's interesting to see if he's an indigo child..

He's still got a cold and I probably should put more breastmilk in his nose, but I can't manually express, I can only pump? Also I've looked into his eye goop, and it seems like he's got blocked tear ducts, so I've been rubbing his tear ducts and squirting some bm in his eyes, and it's getting better.. It also seems to help w/ the acne, as I usually have a bunch on his face, which I rub in.

Also I have a scheduled pooper here. The latest trend on the past week is for him to go 1x every day. Man talk about "blow outs".. His diaper is completely full..

I've also caved into the pacifier. For me, only having the one breast, I honestly can't sit (w/ back/neck pain) for hrs on end.. I've also found my body to be aggravated via sitting and holding a nursing baby in the same position allllllllll day. Hazelnut Lots of acne here at 1 month. It came and went and came a little again. It's not adorable, but I leave it. It'll go away soon.

Anyone know any natural remedies for baby acne? She still has it pretty bad even at a month old.
Yann has horrible baby acne and AFAIK there is nothing to do for it. I put breastmilk on it occasionally, and just wipe his face gently with warm water but I think you just have to let it run its course.

Grapefruit seed extract works realy well for yeast rash. Just put a drop in a cup of warm water and rinse her bottom with that. my other ds had a yeast rash that cleared up really quickly with that treatment. Also, you can put plain yogurt on the rash. OR, really diluted vinegar...

~Katie~ Liam is doing better today, he's had a few meltdowns but we're trying different things to calm him like bouncing on the exercise ball. I got my moby today and I don't know how I survived the first month without it, it really is a life saver. He calms down pretty quickly in it. There are a number of possibilities for why he's having a hard time, it could be the thrush itself, it could be the diflucan which can upset his tummy, or it could be a combination of those interacting with his personality. He seems to be really sensitive to his surroundings and likes things just so otherwise he loses it. Even though breastfeeding is going well he keeps popping off and then cries to be put back on, which makes me think the thrush is bothering him. A lot of the time it just seems like he's crying for no reason. It does get better right? I just want to get back to those quiet alert times...

I'm making his birthday cake tonight, its his one month birthday. Hard to believe it has already been a month!

Speaking of messes, right after I put him in the moby we had our first diaper leak, thank god it was only pee!

thought maybe you ladies could relate...

I was sitting here wearing the little guy in a MT, bouncing on the exercise ball trying to catch up on email. My toddler is standing behind me trying to untie it. I can smell yogurt but then realize that it is not actually yogurt. Two of us need a change of clothes. Then she is successful so I stop. His wool cover was compressed and I have a wet tummy. Turns out he was fussy because he had to poop and all that bouncing while compressed has turned it into a big mess. It just all strikes me as so funny tonight.

Also, I added pictures of the kiddos in my sig.
Isn't it amazing how such little people can make such BIG messes??

I used the gripe water with ds1 and thought it worked well also. But the taste is like black licorice and he only liked it for a short time and then started refusing it. In fact if I remember correctly, he started gagging on it, which is obviously NOT the affect I was looking for!
So far Sean doesn't seem to mind the taste. The only downside is that it takes about 15 minutes for me to give him a dose of it because if I don't do it that slowly, he'll choke on it.

I read lactivist's directions and thought, "Wow, she's good. That would be handy but..."

Now I'll have to give it a try. I love wearing my baby but get so frustrated because I have never been comfortable nursing any babe in the carrier. Then when he wants to nurse frequently I get frustrated with the carrier in my way. I admit I never tried in the MT but once he wakes up I'll see if he is up for it.

Thanks for the motivation ladies.

EricaE Good luck, Katie. I'm sorry Liam is having a rough time.

For any of the gassy, grunting babies - we bought Baby's Bliss Gripe Water because Sean is really gassy (making him oh so cranky) and it WORKS!! It's wonderful and worth it's weight in gold. We're actually getting some sleep because he's not grunting all night long. Yeah!

Okay, I now understand the concept of nursing in the Mei Tai thanks to Lactivist! Now let's see if I can actually do it...
10-08-2007 01:36 AM
~Katie~ Looks like we'll be going back to the midwife tomorrow I'm feeling better but Liam is still crying pretty much all the time if he's not nursing or sleeping, and very few things will sooth him. I bought a hotsling yesterday because my moby hasn't arrived yet, its surprisingly comfortable and I'm keeping him in that all the time. I didn't get to sleep until 4am and got about 4 hours of rest so I'm beat. It just makes me sad because he was content and happy up until all of this started and it breaks my heart to see him so upset.

Liam for some reason has never wanted to comfort nurse, once he is full he's done and doesn't want anything to do nursing, although that might change after the thrush. He does have a strong urge to suck and tries to suck his hands but gets frustrated with that, so we might try a pacifier in the future. He was actually born with sucking blisters on his wrists from sucking on his hands in the womb.

Well I'm off to try and get some sleep before he's up again, wish me luck for our mw visit!
