I would do a post-exposure work-up based on that story. As you say, the risk is low but you can't exclude the possibility of blood coming in contact with a mucous membrane.

We've never used a co-sleeper but found bedrails very useful. Gives you all more space as you can sleep right up to the edge of the mattress.

I agree. I don't have step-children of an age to be sharing things but DD1 (age 4) and her friends always swap clothes when they're playing.

I do think that it would be nice to get DSD some hair...

Can you put the cot in your room? The SIDS guidelines recommend room sharing for at least 6-12months anyway so that might be a good compromise for you all. You could also try side-carring the cot....

Newborns get lots of skin spots as JustJenny said. I can't see the picture well (on my phone). Do some of the red spots have white centres, like tiny pustules? If so, it's probably erythema toxicum....

I agree that it is hard to think of our children as sexual beings but that is our own issue to work...
