I personally like flannel for fitteds--I use 7 layers & that will contain two pees for my DD (but I can *tell* that it's wet after one, so I can change as soon as possible, she has sensitive skin)....

Maybe try side-snap fitteds? That way, you can adjust the leg & waist settings separately. Lots of WAHMs on HC make SS fitteds from the Fattycakes pattern, it's a great fit for chubby legs...
