Viva cafe in the old north end is a great place to go. There is a toy section for the kids and you can hang back and have a coffee or something. There are always people hanging out there with kids.

Beware though - the hill section is very expensive. Yes it is where you can live downtown and not have college kids around but you are lucky if you can buy a home there too.
