I never noticed too much of a difference w/ dryer balls. I did notice a difference adding a towel. I decided to try using a heavy cotton bath mat, instead of a towel, and that is amazing!!

Do you use a lid on your pail? I just take a clean prefold and put about 3 drops of TTO on it. I use that as a "lid." It really keeps the smell down, while allowing some circulation.

Lots of people do it, including me and I haven't heard anyone say their washer had issues with it. You don't want to use too much, though. I just squirt a little w/o measuring.

Do you tri-fold or do you use a snappi or pins? If you use a snappi you can get a trimmer fit and adding a doubler won't seem so bulky.
