I'm now finding your blog but wish I had found it a while ago when facebook had that issue with moms showing photos of themselves breast-feeding. Your site is great and I wish more black women knew about it. I'm going to do my part to get the word out! :)

I LOVE your site. The work you are doing is fabulous! It's amazing to me how fast social norms can change. Modesty had a different definition back then didn't it?

Jennifer, thank you so much for creating this blog. The photos are so alive. Here's another I think may interest you:

http://tinyurl.com/8j28wb

It's a close up of the Oakland Civic Auditorium. Was there last fall & noticed one of the building's sculptures depicted an older child nursing. Pardon the poor quality. Taken with camera phone.

Blessings to you & yours!

Hi Jennifer,

Today I saw a painting at a gallery of breastfeeding and was interested to see the date was 1942! Similar era to the photos.
Interesting blog.

regards Margaret

I love old photographs, not only as art but also as important historical documents. I also love breastfeeding! Thank you for all the work that you have done. I can't wait to see more. These photos are unbelievably beautiful and your argument is very interesting.

Bravo, Jennifer James!!!!
As a fan of breastfeeding, babies, and best of all breastfeeding babies...I too have a passion for pictures of their wonderful faces as they eat...But THIS!!! THIS IS ART, GIRL!!!
I can't wait to show the staff I work with, the pictures of the woman seeing her baby behind the window, with the nurse (used to be me, a long time ago), and the same generation as the formula and the high mortality rates!
We still have an appalling mortality rate for a supposed developed country...There are some developing countries that put us to SHAME. And with formula ranking up in the 400% mark up, I'm really not sure why people don't "get the picture"?
So maybe we just have to "give them the Picture", 'eh!
So Incredibly PLEASED to have found your site, as I will be a regular!

Most Sincerely,
Wendi Rebholz, RN, IBCLC
