In the midst of gray dusk
Two hands traced each other
And formed a child.
I formed the hand
And you shaped the fingers
Into long grassblades
That would someday play freely
The notes of the wind.
And for the heart
A man sat me down
To teach me this song.
He said, "I only sing
To keep my old heart beatin'".
He said, "gather the laughter of childhood,
The passion of morning love,
The still solitude of deserted beaches,
The logic of trust,
The soaring flight of imagination.
Give it the calm of balance
And take in your hand
Drops of wet passion
Gathered from over the seasons.
Now pour these into that heart
So the seeds of love can grow strong,
For your child is your love,
And sing it this song:
" We can feel the love in your heart
Growing stronger.
Let it be longer and longer
So my child, you'll learn wisdom".
