BOLD performs Birth
Hailed "The Vagina Monologues for birth" by Dr. Christiane Northrup, Karen Brody's acclaimed play Birth is about to take center stage throughout September in cities all across America. Audiences from Duluth, Minnesota to Seattle, Washington will be chanting "My body rocks!" as Brody's documentary-style play tells the birth stories of eight mothers, painting an alarming portrait of how low-risk mothers are giving birth today. All of these performances are part of BOLD [1], a global arts-based movement inspiring communities around the world to create childbirth choices that work for mothers. BOLD performances of Birth raise awareness about childbirth to more than 10,000 people annually and in two years have raised more than $85,000 for organizations dedicated to encouraging mother-friendly birth choices for mothers. This September, there will be more than one hundred BOLD performances of Birth. Are you ready to be BOLD? Find out where the nearest performance [2] is to you, how you can be BOLD in your community, and buy a hot-off-the-press special edition copy [3] of the play with a foreword by Dr. Northrup and e-mails and stories from BOLD locations on how the play has impacted their birth communities. As Brody says, "Now's the time to be BOLD."
