California Constituents: Tell Governor Schwarzenegger You Want Mercury Taken Out Of All Vaccines Given To Children And Pregnant Women.
The Mercury Free Act of 2004 (AB 2943) has passed the California Assembly and Senate. Now we must convince the Governor to sign this very important legislation.Research has shown that developing fetuses and young children are very sensitive to the toxic effects of mercury. AB 2943 is a precautionary measure that would reduce infants and children's overall exposure to mercury during their most critical developing years. Vaccine manufacturers and some health officials are advising Governor Schwarzenegger to VETO AB 2943. We need to send a strong message to drug companies and our elected leaders that we will not compromise the health of our children.

Tell the Governor you want him to support safer vaccines for children and to sign AB 2943. Tell him why this bill is important. Your letter need not be long, just sincere. Make sure to include your name, full address, phone number and signature. Ask friends and family to write the governor too. Letters are counted!
Guidance For A Wiser, Greener New School Year
Sharpen those pencils, and answer this question: what is the second most commercialized, jingle-laden, and stuff-centered time of the year? The answer is upon us: back-to-school. The National Retail Federation recently reported that consumers spend $14.1 billion annually on back-to-school merchandise. As the second largest retail season, back-to-school shopping packs a hefty punch on our wallets and on the environment.There are better options for the planet and for students. The Center for a New American Dream has launched the website www.shopbacktoschool.org to help you meet most of your back-to-school shopping needs with tips for re-using last years supplies and links to finding environmentally preferable ones online.
Check out the Activist Toolkit www.newdream.org/consumer/toolkit.html, which includes a Green Buying and Action Guide with an in-store shopping list, as well as tips for getting retailers, school administrators and your local PTAs to make better choices when they stock and buy supplies. Just by printing the In- store Comment Card and leaving it in a store suggestion box, you're helping give a voice to the millions of students.
Write The Docs A Prescription For Better Office Visits
A recent survey conducted by the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families and Communities and the American Academy of Pediatrics revealed parents' unmet needs in routine pediatric care. Inspired by these findings, The Holistic Pediatric Association (HPA) is seeking input from parents, to help develop guidelines for the content of holistic pediatric well-baby visits. Offer your feedback, to help the HPA in its goals of "supporting parents who seek a healing model of health care, helping parents reduce the use of ineffective and harmful drug treatments, and empowering parents to build healthy bodies and spirits in their children."To enter your suggestions on the HPA website go to www.hpakids.org and click on the Parent Forums button and then the Community Bulletin Boards in the upper left corner. Enter feedback in the Preventive Care section.
Your responses will help shape HPA policies. Candid, constructive input will be helpful; specifically, what aspects of well-child care are most important to you, and any concerns that have not been addressed at well-baby visits by your practitioners in the past. Additional topics you might want to address include nutritional counseling, environmental concerns, breastfeeding, attachment parenting, vaccinations, injury prevention, developmental assessment, learning styles, and safety.

Maryland State Delegate Terry Gilleland has announced that he is willing to introduce legislation during the 2005 session which, if passed, would eliminate the use of THIMEROSAL and other heavy metals in all children's vaccination in the state of Maryland.To the parents of children suffering from autistic spectrum disorders, please write to Delegate Terry Gilleland at Lowe Office Building, Room 214; 84 College Avenue; Annapolis, MD 21401-1991.
Please tell Delegate Gilleland how your life has been personally affected by the ravages of THIMEROSAL. Please make your letter very personal while trying to leave out your anger toward the CDC, pharmaceutical companies, etc. This would be a warm and fuzzy attempt to make Delegate Gilleland feel like he is a championing a once-in-a-lifetime cause..and make him understand how deeply devastating thimerosal is to actual people.
