Sarah J Buckley (b 1960) is a trained GP (family physician), with qualifications in GP-obstetrics and family planning. Sarah is also a writer on pregnancy, birth and parenting and currently full-time mother to her 4 children.

Sarah lives in Brisbane, Australia with Nicholas, the love of her life, and their children Emma, Zoe, Jacob, and Maia Rose, born 1990-2000, all of who have breastfed and co-slept into the pre-school years. Sarah's forthcoming book, "Gentle Birth Gentle Mothering: the wisdom and science of gentle choices in pregnancy, birth, and mothering" is due for publication in late 2005.

Sarah's passion for birth and mothering has been fuelled by her personal experiences with her own children, who have all been born gently at home. Sarah has further deepened her understanding of birth and mothering as a journey of transformation through her participation, over 10 years, in women's circles with Shivam Rachana and the International College of Spiritual Midwifery, of which she is a founding member.

Since 1997, Sarah has been sharing her unique perspective through writing and lecturing, in which she critiques current practices in pregnancy, birth and parenting from a scientific as well as a personal viewpoint. Her articles have been published in midwifery and parenting magazines internationally, including Mothering magazine, Midwifery Today, MIDIRS, and the Journal of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health.

Topics which Sarah has researched and written about include ecstatic birth; epidurals and other drugs in labour, ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis; third stage of labour and lotus birth; extended breastfeeding; co-sleeping; elimination communication (raising babies without nappies); healing power of birth; yoga and motherhood: fertility awareness and gentle discipline. Sarah encourages us all to listen to our hearts and our intuition, and to claim our rightful role as the real experts in pregnancy, birth and mothering.
