Philip Incao, MD Article continues below My daughter who is nine and a half months old has been diagnosed with a closed labia. I go to a naturopathic pediatrian who has suggested we wait and see (as long as she is still urinating okay). It was open a little at six months and now has closed completely. She seems to have no problem urinating or have any discomfort. Should I be concerned about this now? I have read a few articles that suggest it is normal in some girls for this to happen and not to worry...but I'm still a little concerned. It is definitely not normal for the labia to be closed. Even if it doesn't seem to hinder urination, it may be impeding vaginal secretions and, when menses begin, menstrual blood. I recommend you take your daughter to be evaluated by a (pediatric) gynecologist. |
