Stripping cloth diapers

Eden Haywood-Bird

What is the best way to strip pocket diapers? And, what is the detergent that you have found to work the best?

There are quite a few schools of thought on the subject! Some swear by lots of very hot washes in a row. Others use lots and lots of Oxy-Clean (seven or more scoops in the load!) and even a few who use their dishwasher.I have never stripped in the dishwasher but I have used the Oxy-Clean strip on some used diapers that were smelly and it worked wonders!I personally believe that the best way to strip diapers is to not do it all because you don't have any issues! If you know your water and use the proper detergent for your water's mineral content, don't add a bunch of extra additives (like tea tree oil, lavender oil, etc.) you should not have any issues. It is also a good idea to contact your diaper manufacture if you do get build up that causes repelling and ask for their advice! They often have a already know regiment that is known to work. When it comes to detergents, there is no holy grail of diaper washing because water quality varies so much across the country! I use very inexpensive liquid detergent that is free of enzymes and brighteners. It works great for us! I know lots of people who are happy to use regular Tide and still others who use an all natural, additive-free detergent. There are few cloth diaper detergent guides posted on the internet that a quick qoogle will bring up Happy diapering!
