I read that you parent several musically talented children. I have a love of music but no training or ability to play an instrument. I wish to give my child an opportunity to do so. Are early lessons an only option? Also I wish to homeschool, how do I support musical learning?
Dear Parent,
Your child is fortunate to have a parent who wants to provide musical education. I wish all children developed their musical skill from a young age. Schooling draw children away from their natural inclination toward the arts and waste years on accumulation of useless information that can be learned any time if needed. Can you imagine a society in which no one is musically illiterate? People humming Mozart on the streets and knowing to read notes? Teens getting together with friends to play chamber music or sing chorals?
I would love to see music and the arts be the most basic learning foundation for every child so people can develop their emotional and artistic capacities first and come to their academic pursuit with a softer, artistic, sensitive and creative mind.
Although, normally, lessons are the only way to start a young child on music, by writing to me you have found another way. I offer guidance for parents by phone or in person, so that after one of two meetings with me, and without previous musical education, you can learn to play with your child and learn with him all the fundamentals of music as well as improvisation, listening, and the love of music.
I suggest that you sign up for a phone session with me here:
