I'm not a vegetarian, but here is some info about growing them.

BTW they eat insects. I don't think you have to feed them if you have flies, mosquitoes, etc. in your house. I've never had one, so all the info I have is intellectual only. No practical experience.

We had one and the instructions said not to feed them, just to let them catch bugs. My sister couldn't resist and fed it a fly and it didn't close all the way, I think it needed the bugs movement to keep clamping down. We will probably get one again ours just got to cold in the move, I thought it was kind of fun and helped get rid of a few flies.
