Hello Hong Kong Moms--

Does anyone have any experience with homeschooling in HK?  My husband may be transferring there.  We are currently homeschooling our four children here in the US and would most certainly like to continue when we go abroad.  I understand that it is illegal but that expats are sometime granted the rights to do so...  There seems to be one meet up group there for homeschoolers but I have not yet gotten any more information.

Thank you!

70 homeschooling families at that MEetup Group!

and "If you notify the Education Bureau that you are homeschooling or they become aware of it by some other means, you may expect to receive emails, phone calls, and visits from government employees. These employees will often try to persuade the parents to enroll their children in traditional school classes, but parents are under no obligation to do so unless they receive an attendance order. Chan and Leung explained to me that the issuance of an attendance order is a rare circumstance, mostly unique to situations where children have become victims of abuse or neglect. Unfortunately, a small handful of parents have kept their children home under the guise of homeschooling in order to escape negative attention to the lack of care given to their children. Because of these cases the government feels it must monitor every situation where a child is not attending school." from

looks to me like an Expat family could so easily HS under the radar there. The schooling in China (and HK i suppose) is SO SO expensive. Around 22,000 USD for the elementary grades. More in a lot of schools. I found a school that is ok for around 10,000 USD per child in Beijing and my kids are in the process of applying there. (we don't do very well at HS but have tried, oh yes we have tried)
