I'm an old city water user that recently moved to a private well water home. I tested the water and had 3 companies give me a sales pitch on buying their water conditioning system and the reverse osmosis drinking water system to filter out chlroine and fluoride.

I don't know what to chose or what's BEST for the family. and help would be really appreciated.

the water test results:
hardness 16
ph 7
iron 1
tds 270
odor: less than 0.2
sulfur 5-6ppm

companies recommended:
Kinetico 2030s and an upflow filter for sulfur
+ reverse osmosis for kitchen and frig
Total $4000+-

Culligan Medalist series with a sediment filter before the softner
+ reverse osmosis for kitchen and frig
Total $3000+-

Ecowater $2100+-

My DH works for a water treatment agency and we are on well water so he is a bit of an expert in this. He said there shouldn't be chlorine in your well water so that shouldn't be a concern. Do you know your flouride to be high? If not, you can skip the RO. Dh said your other numbers look good, like you have clean, soft water. Do you happen to happen to know about other contaminates, like nitrates, that would necesitate an RO unit?

We have an RO unit we bought at a club store for about $250 and installed it ourselves. Just a thought if you want to save some money.

As far as the sulfur, Dh said that if your well pumps to a tank, you can put an aerator on the tank which will cut the smell. Otherwise he is not sure, but a filter won't help. Not sure about a conditioner or softener.

Feel free to ask more questions. HTH!
