mimic? Brendon weaned at 3 months old (long, painful story. Basically a result of me being a moron.) I tried to reintroduce him to the breast when Hypatia was born and he was COMPLETELY uninterested. Meanwhile, he tries to bite our shoulders (I think he's trying to kiss and hasn't quite figured it out yet).
He's seen Hypatia nursing for 13 1/2 months (and counting) and now all of a sudden, he thinks it's a great game to come up and try to bite me! Arm, boob, leg - wherever! I think he thinks that's what Hypatia is doing and he wants closeness with me so he's "copying" her. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
What do I do now?

that's so funny - funny because my guy has been doing the same thing recently - he weaned at 14 mos. due to pregnancy. his little sister has been nursing for 19 mos. now and for the last couple months he is definitely acting like he wants to nurse. he's 3. i've got no advice, but just wanted to commiserate.

My 3.5 year old has recently begun showing serious jealousy behaviors and interest in how my 16 month old interacts with me. Mark has an autism dx as well. He does try to do what his brother does. I'm going with this being a positive direction, as long as I can figure out how to work with it properly.

Huh. I think I have a lot to learn! My dd is the mimic master and it was one of the behaviors that led them to the ASD dx...

Some kids with autism don't imitate without being taught to do so.

Other kids with autism imitate everything, whether learning it or not.

Other kids with autism imitate some things correctly and need to be taught to imitate others.

It's like echolacia- some ASD kids script the behavior. It's pretty common I think. Most of Chris's behavior and language is heavily scripted off of what he sees other people do or what he sees on TV- one of his favorites is the "thinking" pose they use on blues clues. Some people say ASD children don't hug or like touch- Chris is the opposite : .

This is why they say if you meet one kid with autism, you've met once kid with autism. Generalizations don't help anyone.

I think Brendon is going to be in that last category.
And duh! I didn't even think about jealousy! That is so COOL - he wants more time with mommy!
