I've heard it but I think that it is very unlikely. I'm sure maybe it's happened once or something but your average person isn't going to get a brain infection from popping nose zits. but it's not a bad idea to clean the area before and after I guess. Whatever you do don't google it.

Sounds like an old wives tale. I'll have to check my book, Why do men have nipples, the next time I'm in the room where I keep that book. There is a section on zit picking. LOL

My cousin told me that when I was a kid and also that if you picked one on your face it might never stop bleeding and you would slowly bleed to death from a pimple. I believed him and told him that I had when we were adults and he got the biggest laugh out of it.

There are reasons it could happen, especially with some of the antibiotic resistant bugs around so I'd make sure to keep it clean...always wash your hands and the area well first, but I mean, I think on a scale of things to actually worry about its pretty darn low.

Highly unlikely. As in, more likely to be struck by lightning while picking your zits. Do wash your hands well, though.

LOL well I had never heard it until my friend's dr said it about her son and his pimple on his forhead. He called it the 'zone of death' or something stupid like that

So, wash your hands and don't do it outside in a thunderstorm, and you should be good!

Getting struck by lightening could very possibly happen. I am waiting to see if we get hit with storms today and I already have my tripod ready (it's metal btw)

theoretically, any kind of infection on your face can go to your brain.. at least more easily than other infections. Eye infections are especially worrisome. I wouldn't use that as a reason to not pop a zit though

In that regards then a sinus infection could theoretically kill someone? yes?

this happened to my mom's best friend's (adult) son last summer. No one had EVER heard of it before, but he had to be hospitalized and put on some strong antibiotics.

Not that his story has stopped me...

Alisteal that's a great photo. Are you a weather nerd? I'm always looking up to see if I can see a funnel cloud whenever it starts to get stormy...and I love checking radar on my computer. Weather nerd

I think it's an old wives tale to prevent you from popping zits.

Crunchy check list:  2 homebirths (one accidental UC!), co-slept, no CIO, cloth diapers, home/un school, raw milk drinker (!) I am a walking cliche!! I even blog and knit...

See I told you it had probably happened once. I hope he's okay now. And I need more details like what was he picking, for how long and exactly where was it on his face? Did he have any underlining issues, immune issues, how dirty were his hands and where had they been?

I'm a BIG weather nerd. I've seen Twister so much I have it memorized. LOL Right now we're having isolated storms move through. It's fun

I think with a normal immune system this would generally not be an issue but when my dad was going through chemo he was told not to pick or pop as he would me immune-compromised
