Thursday I had been having contractions all day long off and on. This was nothing new. They were annoying, but not that bad. They would quit whenever I got up to do things, so I knew it wasn't real labor. I laid down with Sam to get him to take a nap and they went away again. So I got to take a nap while Sam and Savanna slept. I'm glad I got this, otherwise I'm not sure I would have had enough energy.

I got very frusterated with my children right before dh got home. I was still having contractions and just really irritable. Dh let me rest and read while he took care of dinner and the kids. After a while I got up and spent some time with them. Around 8 I went to the track with my mom and walked a half a mile. I had a few contractions, but nothing really different. I came home and showered and watched a tv show. I went to bed at 10 to read and the contractions started again. They were about 5-10 minutes apart. It would vary on how close they were, no real pattern. They were a bit harder than the ones i had earlier, but not that much. About midnight I gave up on sleep and got online. Within about 15 minutes the contractions started coming 3-4 minutes apart and lasting 40-60 seconds. I called my midwife at 12:45. The contractions had gotten much more painful. The midwife suggested I get in the tub and call her in a few hours if they kept up. So I got in the tub, it was very nice.

One of my best friends came over to stay with my children and since we weren't leaving for awhile we just visited in between contractions. We called the midwife about 2:30 and went int to see where we were. We got there at 3 and I was dialated to a 4. I had been a two at my appointment on Tuesday. So she said to go home and call back in a few hours. I went home and got back in the tub. Then got out around 4 and laid on my bed hoping to get a bit of rest. The contractions were probably around 5 minutes apart. At 4:45 I got on my hands and knees with a particularly painful contraction. All of a sudden there was some fluid leaking out. I thought I peed, but wasn't sure. Then a bit more came out, so I thought maybe it was my water had broken. So we called the midwife again and went back in to see her. My water was still intact, but she said she tested my sheet (we took it in) and it was positive for amniotic fluid, so she thought it was just a leak. She checked me and I was dialated to a 6. She got me on the birth ball for awhile. By this time the contractions were really getting more painful. I wasn't sure if I could really do this. I sat on the ball for awhile and then got in her tub about 5:30. It was so nice with the jets and all. I sat in there for awhile. Then they wanted me to get out to see where I was at. They didn't want me to deliver in there beause we weren't sure on the baby's size. They said it can be hard to help guide the shoulders of a big baby in the small tub. I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I would be.

So I got on the bed and they had me lay on my side. Madalyn was still really high at this point. They couldn't really even feel her head. After awhile they checked me and said I was 8-9. This was around 6:30. They made me switch sides for a bit. being on my side was kinda hard. The contractions were much stronger, way more painful. After a bit they got me on my hands and knees. This made the urge to push much stronger. I had been pushing a bit with each contraction since about 5:30. I'm a screamer and I really hurt my throat screaming like i did. This labor was very very intense. I really just wanted to quit for awhile. I was so tired. So I labored on my hands and knees for quite awhile and then they got me back on my side. I was pushing more and more with each contraction, but she was still really high.

All of a sudden, while pushing I felt the *ring of fire*. Her head was there. I was shocked to feel it all of a sudden. I told them it was there and asked if they could see it. The midwife and the nurse both said no. But i knew she was there. So I kept pushing and after a few minutes they said she could see her. I'm not sure on the time frame, but dh and I both agree it wasn't that long. Finally her head was out and they got her all suctioned. Then it was time for the shoulders. That hurt more than her head. I think that's when I tore on my scar from DD. Finally she was here at 7:44. I felt such relief and couldn't really believe it was over. Madalyn Grace was finally here. She weighed 8 lbs 10 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long.

Five minutes later my mom, sister, dd, and friend got there. I was acutally very glad dd got there when she did and not before. We had talked with her and she really wanted to be there for the birth, so we had agreed, knowing my friend would leave with her if it got too stressful for her. And it was kinda nice to just be me, dh, the midwife, and the nurse. So, we were just about to cut the cord when they got there and I asked them to wait because Savanna wanted to help. She got on the bed and helped daddy hold the scissors, then decided she didn't want to. So dh cut the cord.

Everything went so well, except I lost a little too much blood. We hadn't checked my iron for about 3 weeks. It had been pretty high, but I guess got lower right at the end. So it was a blessing I didn't have her in the water. They gave me a shot of pitocin to help the bleeding, but it didn't work, they had to give me a shot of something stronger a bit later. Other then that everything went so well. And we got home around 1 pm. I love getting home so early!!!
