Moving mid-year or wait?

My husband and I are unsure of what would be best for us and our children (ages 8,3). We our preparing to move to another state where my husband can be with our children more often and housing is more affordable. If we move this summer, the change in schools for my 8-yr-old should be smoother since we can buy a home, move in and prepare for the upcoming year. However, my husband can't move with us until Jan 2020. So, I would be "holding down the fort" on my own until he can follow. OR, we could move in January 2020 but force my child to change schools mid-year without a break to move in to the new house. I'm not sure which would be harder on him emotionally. Help please!
