Birth Beads

So I was stalking other DDCs and I know this might be too early for us to organize but I just wanted to bring up the idea of birth beads and if anyone in this DDC would be interested in doing it?

For those who don't know what it is, everyone interested in participating will go and buy or make a bead for each mama that wants to participate then sends it to the person "in charge" of the whole thing. Then that person will send out the collection of beads to each person participating so they can make a necklace to wear in labor as a reminder of our DDC friends who are in this with us. (hope that made sense)

I love the idea of feeling bonded to everyone like a sisterhood. Just wondering if anyone else is interested in this!

You beat me to the punch, Bren! I was going to organize a bead swap come Mid-October (once we are all past the midway point). I did it with my last DDC and it was really special.

So, yes. I am interested and wouldn't mind organizing it for the group!

I am interested but don't know a lot about what type of beads would work or what I would need to get.. I'm not very crafty ha ha.

Heres a thread I found when I googled birth beads. So basically any beads. I love how unique and varied they turned out in this group.

Wow, that is really cool actually. So we just send out beads to each other and then once you receive them all you make your own necklace? How many beads do you send for each person involved?

So once everyone has "signed up" we'll each go out and buy/make the same amount of beads as the amount of people participating. So if 26 of us participate, you'll buy/make 25 beads (for everyone but yourself, unless you want one of your own too) and send them in an envelope to Jodie along with a prepaid shipping envelope (which she will use to send your beads in). She will separate the beads into separate piles for each participant, each pile will have a unique bead from every other participant. She will then use your envelope to send you the beads that other mamas bought/made for you and you'll make a necklace out of them. I hope that made sense lol

So in the end you'll receive one envelope containing all of your beads.

I did this with my last DDC and it was fun! I still have the necklace, but I need to re-string it because the wire I used was too thick. I didn't wear it at the birth, but I did have it with me

I'm definitely in!

YAY! I am in and can't wait.

I am sure you thoughtful ladies won't actually need this reminder, but let's all be really conscious of the prepaid envelope part of this plan, because if 25 of us do participate, suddenly Jodie's on the hook for like $100 in shipping costs!
