You haven't posted any updates in a while. I'm sure you're busy. How is everything going?

It is going well. Her head is growing 1/2 inch a week, but I haven't weighed her because I'd have to drive to the breastfeeding store and it was the Thanksgiving shopping weekend madness. She poops a lot and eats much better - I haven't had to put her in football hold to keep her eating. She still sleeps a lot, all day except for about 15 minutes total awake time. I ditched the pump cold turkey 11 days ago and it was the best decision I made - my boobs re-engorged for 3 days but now are down to manageable size, and her poop has stayed yellow without having to pump off the fore milk. We all got sick but she was fine.

I did have about 3 days of being really depressed about her facial problems. I was looking at old pics of the other kids' infancy and I got really sad thinking that the pics of her won't have a perfect little face. The asymmetry is one thing, but the paralysis really got me down. I am getting used to it, though. I am going to start taking her to all the specialist appointments in January and we will see what can be done, but I also have to consider just doing no surgeries and letting her decide when she is older. There would be a two month jaw-lengthening procedure with metal rods and screws on the outside of her face, a multi-step ear reconstruction using her ribs, a multistep nerve transplant into her paralyzed side followed by a muscle transplant followed by physical therapy, and maybe a bone-anchored hearing aid, plus all the orthodontia required by her jaw asymmetry. And then there is her eye on the paralyzed side - maybe eyelid surgery to help it close better. And all of this is maybe optional, but her heart defect may not close and may require open-heart surgery... I had four "perfect" kids, and now she will spend so much time at various hospitals and doctors' offices, and maybe be mocked by other kids, or they will think she is stupid because she can't make the normal facial movements of emotion...

Oh, Clementine! Sweet baby who has overcome SO MUCH! Galatea, I certainly do not envy all of the difficult decisions you will need to make as her mom. Praying for wisdom and peace.

RN, IBCLC. DS is 6, DD1 is 4, DD2 is 1! DD3 due in December!

Great update on the nursing, but I'm so sorry you're faced with all these decisions. I have no advice, just lots of admiration for your strength. My best friend was born without an ear and I didn't even know she'd had a new one reconstructed until she told me. But that's obviously just one surgery among many. I wish I had more to offer. Just know we're thinking of you! I'm so glad that you're both healthy and hopefully the right path for both of you will become clear in time.

Beautiful baby girl born 8/13/2012. Little star baby lost at 10 weeks pregnant, 12/18/2013. Rainbow baby girl born 12/22/2014.

I can't even imagine what you are going through. Good luck with your road ahead. I admire your strength and wish you all the best. And congratulations on successful breastfeeding, it is hard without having other issues, and it shows true dedication on your behalf that she is thriving!!

Galatea, it sounds like you have so many decisions ahead and I do not envy you, but it seems like you are being very cautious not to put Clementine through too much and just doing a tremendous job of preparing her for the best possible life. You are so full of love for her already, she is in good hands!

edit: Due to my disappearance from the board, I hadn't seen any pictures yet. She is very very cute! So sweet1

I would love an update on Clementine! I know it has been awhile, but I still think of you often!
