@funfunkyfantastic it's so frustrating! And I haven't gained *that* much. Something like 17 pounds. It's not like I just sit around eating junk all day it felt like such a slap on the wrist and I was so embarrassed.

@dahlia810 I think your dr would have a heart attack knowing how much I've gained! 35 lbs and I'm only getting heavier. I gained 55 lbs with dd but after pregnancy lost it gradually. If I'm following that trend... only 20 lbs to go... sheesh.

The more I think about it the more it annoys me that she brought it up! There is such a wide range of normal weight gain in pregnancy!

I only gained around this much total with my first daughter, but that was because I lost a whole bunch in the beginning of that pregnancy! So I lost 10 or so, and gained starting later.

I would be annoyed over the talk too.

I am in the opposite boat with negative gain so far - have added back a few of the pounds I lost at first. And then I have been having crazy twin thoughts lately because of some strange heart rate sounds I am getting with the fetoscope - but then thinking it would have to be crazy to think I have twins when I am not at all big and have gained almost nothing so far.

Went hiking again yesterday and it was a struggle. I really need this to get easier gnu will keep my motivation up. The heat isn't helping much either - if need me I will drive up to the mall and walk I suppose. Gotta get in better physical shape and stop using my work as an excuse.

So. We were at a family thing, and I was sitting in a folding chair. It apparently wasn't all the way unfolded and it snapped down a little... In a room full of people, my mil goes "is the weight too much for it?". wtf. I get that she was joking, but honestly, who says that, especially to a pregnant woman???

@sarahl918 oh I'm pissed! I was *going to* ask her to watch my daughter while I get my glucose test this week, but not anymore. I'm not feeling inclined to spend more time with her, or to let her have time with my daughter.... I know that's awful and bitchy and vindictive.. But grrr!

And thank you lady! I don't feel like I look horrible, but I have to admit it's starting to get in my head

@dahlia810 No way! You look fantastic and I am actually jealous of how good you look! Don't let what she said get you down. I'd be offended too! Some people really are sensitive. Most people these days though just feel sorry for me looking at how miserable I already am, sheesh. My dumb ass friend commented on my kankles today. His girlfriend basically told him he was an idiot. lol. He is pretty dumb though so I let it slide. He couldn't wrap his head around how they had developed in the first place.

Omg @funfunkyfantastic I can't believe some people! You are beautiful, lady! I think why this all irks me so much is because it's normal and healthy to gain weight during pregnancy! People (apparently even dr's) ride our asses about it and do nothing but make us feel bad. I just keep reminding myself how so very worth it pregnancy is. I can't wait to meet my girl, and to see pictures of all the precious babies in our group!

Thanks @dahlia810 . Yeah people can be pretty insensitive can't they? I've always seen the weight gain as a normal part of pregnancy. I still can't quite figure how my body thinks I need to gain so much of it though! Last time I didn't wrap my belly afterward and I ended up still looking pregnant for a month or two afterward. This time I think i'll wrap it for sure and see if that makes a difference getting back down to the right size.

I just wore one of those spanx type camisoles for awhile after delivery, which I guess helped. I don't think i looked pregnant for too long!

People are unbelievable. I was reading the chapter in Birthing From Within about weight gain during pregnancy and how expectations have shifted over the years, and why. It's interesting.

I didn't wrap my belly after birth either!! I didn't even know that was a thing until recently. I will definitely be giving it a shot this time. Does anyone here do belly casting? I haven't, and not sure if I will, but I think it's kinda cool. I just think it's one of those things I would do and then think, ok where on Earth would I display this??

I was wondering this today... Is it better to do all exercise at once? does breaking it up throughout the day make a difference? For example, walking- if I walk a mile in the morning and a mile in the afternoon, is it just as good as walking 2 miles all at once?

Hmmm...good question! I have no clue! I do enjoy doing my exercises twice a day though - one time the aerobic/walking exercises and then another time my Yoga/prenatal stretching exercises.

Perhaps whatever your body is telling you would be best...for some 2 miles walking might be painful in the 3rd trimester, and breaking it up would be easier on your body.

Yeah I'm already confined to sitting exercises. I haven't gotten to the gym as much as I should lately though. It's hard when there's no one to watch dd during the day. Lately I've been rather drained with the heat too.

I have had this crazy nesting urge to work in my yard/garden lately so I've been doing a lot of weed pulling/pruning/general cleaning up. It's been satisfying, and I sweat A LOT in this Southern heat, but I always feel great at the end of the day. I am counting this as partial exercise!

I believe the general rule is to do at least 10 minutes of activity at one time. You can do 30 minutes in 3 different 10 minute increments.

I bought a Fitbit to motivate myself to move more. My goal is to do more steps each day until I make it to something like 10000 or whatever the standard Fitbit goal is. I am also working to increse stair flights by 1 each day - unfortunately half the time it doesn't pick up my stairs at home so that is proving to be harder.

Oh geeze, stairs... I climb those several times a day since I live on the 3rd floor. Always feels like I'm climbing a mountain. I suppose I could go up and down a few extra times if I Don't keel over first, lol.

We have two flights of stairs in our house - and I climb both of them several times a day, because my laundry is in the basement, and our bedrooms are on the 3rd floor. It has taken some getting used to, but the hardest thing is that I HAVEN'T HAD A HANDRAIL. ON EITHER OF THEM. I've been nagging DH to get them installed for me so I can get up them more easily (especially with DD) and I'm finally getting them in tomorrow - I'm SO excited!!!

(The plus side about having laundry in the basement is that I have laundry chutes in both the main and top floor bathrooms - which I LOVE)

I've gotten back in the routine of taking walks with my daughter and the boy I babysit, so while it's physically tiring, I feel good getting exercise. I try to do 2 miles a day pushing the double stroller around my neighborhood. It has some hills so I feel like it's a pretty good workout! @Erica13 I usually do 1.5 miles in the morning, then tack on another half mile in the afternoon I was mostly curious if splitting it up would make it less beneficial or effective somehow.
@sarahl918 I randomly initiated redoing our front garden bed last weekend! Sooo much weeding needed to be done! It definitely counts as some exercise. Oh and I made my husband install a handrail for our basement stairs too!

dahlia810,

Sounds like you have a great system going for exercise! Good for you! I've been doing pretty good with my yoga and stretching exercises, but I want to get in more walking/low impact aerobics as well. I walked a mile yesterday inside in the airconditioning using a Leslie Samone walking DVD. Unfortunately, there's no good place to walk outside where we live, although even if there was I'm not sure I would want to in this heat.

Sarahl918,

I love that your house has laundry chutes! So fun! My grandparent's home had laundry chutes and I always remember having fun putting laundry down them! Stairs are great exercise too! Sounds like you'll be in good shape for birth! I hope you'll have someone to take over laundry for awhile for you after baby is born. I couldn't do stairs without intense pain for about a month after I gave birth to my first. When I went down and up our flight of stairs for my 2-week doctor's appointment after DS was born, I couldn't walk except for a few feet at a time for a couple days after. Perhaps my age or the episiotomy was the reason though.

Oh that is a really good point!! Fortunately DH works from home and is self-employed, though he does travel a lot, he will be taking off a month after she is born to stay close for me. He'll probably be doing the laundry. :-D I had some tearing with DD, and I remember trying to go to the mall with my Mom maybe 3 weeks pp and it was pretty difficult. I had a hard recovery.

I do love the laundry chute, though I wish I had as convenient of a way to bring it all back up the stairs. At least now I'll have handrails and don't have to huff and puff my way up them. I can only hope it will help with labor!
