IVF for older women?

Hi. First post here although I used to frequent Mothering and was a paid subscriber under another name.

I'm looking for fertility clinics that will perform procedures - egg retrieval, IVF, IUI, on "poor candidates". I am in NY, but would travel.

A little background - I do have children and believe I am capable of conceiving again. We had just begun TTC after getting my period back postpartum when DH got diagnosed with prostate cancer. He plans to store sperm, but I am far from an ideal IVF candidate. I am 44 and overweight. While I know we may never conceive another biological child, I am looking to try. Thank you for any information and prayers.

hey, there loves life! I can see where you're coming from and it can be quite frustrating to not get an appointment just because they have tagged you as a 'poor candidate' I mean who are they to judge. I was reading about women in Russia she was a surrogate mother I believe but that doesn't change anything, she was 60 years old. It can be hard to get IVF in the US. My advice is that take your partner in confidence and fly out to Europe. That will accomplish 3 things, one you will get to spend quality time with him, two you can get procedures like IVF, IUI etc, third is that they would be quite cheaper as compared to the US. All you need to do is contact some people there before you go.It's genuinely not that hard once you put your mind and body to it. Just remember to take your partner in confidence. As you have said you're overweight I would suggest you follow a low carb diet for 2 to 3 months before doing all this. In that time you can research on what areas you can visit and what are the best clinics for you. Much love and take care.

dear! you have been trying and looking for stuff that is generally not recommended for women of our ages. You already have kids that are good but people like me who do not have any and am already at the age of 40 it is very difficult to bear and mentally I remain unstable mostly.I hope that your husband gets better soon. But being into this research for a long time I have come to know that woman our age above 40 I mean are not suitable for IVF procedures as the eggs at our age is not that preferable. You should look for donor eggs of your husband's sperms are healthy and then a surrogate mother and by means of the internet have come to know that is not very hectic and very easy to find as many clinics are offering both the facilities among many others.Search a little more.Best of luck dear!.

Hey there!
Hope you are in good health. Its sad to hear about your partner.
You don't need to worry about it. IVF is a technique in which eggs are stored in the tubes for fertilization. The fertilized egg is transferred back into the uterus.
Being overweight is not a big issue. You have to take care of yourself. Try to have healthy diet. Moreover this process takes time. Meanwhile you can take steps to reduce your weight. You can be in perfect shape to carry your child.
Don't you worry about it.
Best wishes.
Stay blessed.

After the age of 40 women have reduced fertility potential as compared to that seen in younger women. Age is the factor that affects the chances of becoming pregnant through IVF. Women in their early ages are likely to get positive results during the test, while it is less in percentage for women in higher age group. You can consider a surrogacy. Best wishes.

I think that usually clinics turn away "poor candidates" for reputation sake! Such clients have a higher chance of failing... Which in turn will give lower success rate to the clinic. Now that is really unfortunate! However you don't know in which category you are. Yes they say that older people find it hard to conceive but that seems to be a myth. I have lately found out that there are some recent studies that debunk that... The so called biological clock, or whatever...

I guess you could try going to another city if the clinics near you won't accept you! If that doesn't either, think big. There is always the abroad treatment card. It won't be much expensive. As some clinics at countries like India, Ukraine and such have low prices with great quality. Based on the standard of living of these countries their prices might be high but for another perspective they might seem medium. Hope you found this helpful. Try doing your best to overcome everything that prevents you from making it big. God bless you!

Hello,
As the age increases fertility decreases. As you are already 44, its quite difficult to get pregnant naturally. Its better you go with surrogacy treatment.

Hey, how are you? Hope you are doing well. Since, with IVF, the chances of pregnancy decreases with age, yours doesn't put you in a very favourable situation. However, you can ofcourse speak to a fertility specialist regarding it. They would know far better than I will about what procedure would suit you best. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavours. May all your dreams come true. I have you in my prayers.

Hi dear, hope you are doing good. Research stated that the chances of IVF gets reduced with increase in age. But as you are 44 and overweight as you mentioned you must have a visit to your concerning doctor for advises. A visit to the clinic will solve all your confusions. But as a suggestion i feel surrogacy is safe for you.

blueivy 10-14-2018 12:59 PM

Hello. How are you doing? Sorry to hear about this. But yeah, IVF with donor eggs is possible. It might be a little expensive where you live. But its good to know that you can travel for it. Hit me up if you need recommendations. I had my child through surrogacy a year ago and that place was great. You know how it is so hard to find a genuine place nowadays. I think I got lucky and came across this one. They specialize in all fertility treatments. I thought this would be helpful for you. In fact, a friend of mine just recently underwent IVF there. She is pregnant now. If you have any questions ill be happy to ask her those for you. Good luck with it.

Hi, you can find a suitable option for yourself. But, you should think, is it safe for you? After all, any reproductive center that values its reputation will not do IVF to a woman whom it can harm. However, if the doctors decide that this procedure will be available to you, you can think about the realization of your main dream. I think you have many chances for success, because you are still a very young woman. You are only 44 years old - this is a great age for a woman, but you will need to prepare more carefully for the birth of a child. But, I hope that your dream will come true. Indeed, despite everything, you are a young woman, and the IVF procedure has become available to many couples. The main thing is to find a good reproductive center. This is really very important, because a certain percentage of success will depend on the professionalism of doctors. It is important to find out how long a particular reproductive center has been functioning, what responses it has about work. But, you can add up the final impression only after a personal visit to the institution. Do not be afraid and shy to ask questions to employees, managers. It is important for you to find out every detail of the procedure. Good reproductive centers are in many countries. But, it is important to choose abroad the country in which the most appropriate legislation on this issue. This must be done in order to protect yourself in advance from the appearance of legal problems.

The NICE guidelines also say women aged 40 to 42 should be offered 1 cycle of IVF on the NHS

kanikadugal011 06-10-2019 06:47 AM

In fact, women over the age of 40 have more eggs with chromosomal abnormalities at a rate higher than women 10 to 20 years younger. For this reason, IVF is heavily recommended for women between the ages of 40 and 45, and often times, using donor eggs is suggested to help ramp up the chances of conception.
