DP and I are planning on TTC #1 beginning this June. I thought we found the 'perfect' sperm bank but after visiting this forum (which I am SO grateful for!) I realize there are a lot more options out there than I thought.

I am just wondering how long it took you other fellow AI-ers to conceive?

It took me 6 months when I got pregnant, but when we wanted to get my partner pregnant, it happened on the first try!

For my partner, we had a phone consultation with Stephanie Brill of Maia Midwifery (auther of the Lesbian Guide to Conception, Pregnancy & Birth), which was WELL worth the money. She gave all sorts of advice to increase my partner's fertility and increase our chances.

Good luck! What an adventure it is!

It took us 10 months to conceive but only 4 tries due to PCOS and extremely long cycles.

good luck to you!!

We were pretty lucky too and my partner fell pregnant on the 4th attempt. Considering we did it ourselves at home we were pretty happy with the time frame. Good luck to you in your TTC adventure!!

We were very fortunate that I got pg our first ever attempt.

I visited a fertility doc in August '04 just to get evaluated & make sure I didn't have anything that would impede our pg attempts. After consulting w/the doc, we decided that IUI would be the best route for us.

My first and only insem (IUI) occurred early Nov & resulted in our beautiful dd.

Good luck w/your ttc journey!

My partner and I did AI at home with fresh sperm from a known donor - and I got pregnant on the first try! You are right, there are a lot of options out there. As a librarian, I found that doing lots of reading really helped my partner and I to make the best choice for our family. We can't wait to do it again!

9 cycles first try, we are currently going on try 7. Last of the 9 was injectibles, this time around all previous 6 were injectibles. Let's hope 7 is a charm, I am running out of money.

It took us a long time!

DS1- About 18 cycles of at home ICI, including cycles with up to 3 vials. Consults and IUIs with the local LGBT fertility center (I realize now they were clueless!) 6 months of testing with an RE, then a successful cycle of clomid/IUI.

DD1-One monitored IUI, then success with a clomid/IUI cycle.

DC 3 & 4- (Still in utero!)- 3 clomid/IUI, 3 gonal-f/IUI, 1 IVF that resulted in a mc at 12ish weeks, then another IVF cycle that resulted in this pg which is at about 18 weeks. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

I hope for your sake it is easier (& cheaper ) or that you are at least smarter than us and get help sooner. It is worth the work it takes.

oh- and I was in my twenties when we started all of this 10 years ago, so I wasn't really 'old'. I sure am now!:

Me.  With 1 spouse, 4 kids, 16 chickens, 74 matchbox cars, 968,562+ legos, a dishwasher waiting to be emptied, a washing machine waiting to be filled and a lost cup of tea in the house.

We got pregnant on the first try, a clomid/IUI cycle, and got our twins. Baby #3 took 3 cycles and 5 months (had to take two cycles off in the middle due to ovarian cyst), IUI/monitoring/acupuncture (no clomid!). I was 22 when I got pregnant with our twins, and 25 when I got pregnant with our singleton. We always did two IUIs per cycle. Most of the women who I know who have taken a long time to get pregnant were either doing ICI, only one insemination a month, or were in their late 30's.

HTH!

I charted for 24 months, and made 6 attempts (two per cycle, so I guess we made 12 attempts) over about 8 months with frozen sperm, the last two cycles included one at-home IUIs with a midwife per cycle. I have very regular cycles. I didn't get pregnant. We haven't ruled out trying some more with me but we're pursuing foster care and adoption for the time being.

(I don't want to rain on your parade or anything, but when I came here and read around, I ONLY found "I got pregnant on the first try!" type stories--that may be because those are the only ones I actually read, but I wanted to include my story, anyway.)

It took us almost a year, but we were only able to try during five of those eleven cycles because we ran into fertility problems almost immediately after we started. Those missed cycles were far more frustrating than the failed cycles, at least to me.

Yeah, some of us have to take the long, expensive route...
I was 31-ish when we started trying, normal periods, etc.

Hormone evaluation, cultures, sonograms, hysterosalpingogram, then...
11 cycles of IUI
3 cycles with Clomid
1 cycle with injectables
Still no pregnancy...

Exploratory laparoscopy and hysteroscopy
Switched to a new Dr
IVF #1 with my own eggs - only made 2 eggs, one fertilized!
Pregnant with one baby!
Miscarried
IVF #2 with my own eggs - only made 2 eggs, neither fertilized.
Long talks with DP, visit with a psychologist dealing with fertility issues...

IVF #3 with DONOR eggs - two fertile eggs put in...
Pregnant - with THREE babies!
Miscarried one triplet @ 10 weeks
Now we have two wonderful daughters!!

We all go down different roads to become parents - in the end I wouldn't change anything except I wish we had the two children that we lost. Good luck!

My partner and I tried for 3 years starting with frozen sperm and IUI's with RE. After a few BFN's doing IUI's we did an exploratory lap and found I had a blocked tube and initial u/s's showed fibroids. 3rd IUI we did low dose Gonal F and I got a BFP, but it was an ectopic on the "blocked" tube (guess it wasn't 100% blocked). Tube and pg removed via lap. Moved to IVF and 1st try got pg. Made it to 7 weeks and m/c'd. All in all we did 5 IUI's, 3 IVF's and 3 FET's. One of my last FET's was also a chemical. We discovered the fost/adopt system and now have 3 beautiful girls that all came to us as infants (DD#1 and DD#3 share the same birthmom). I honestly wish we would have gone the adoption route to begin with, but I had insurance that paid for IUI's and IVF, so we gave it a go trying to be "frugal". We still paid about $40,000 with no baby to show for it. The way I see it, those IVF years were the universe's way of stalling me until my children could find their way home.....and hey....no stretchmarks!!! Good luck to you! Hope you find quicker success!

An incredibly thankful SAH Mommy to 3 fiendishly enchanting girls 11/04,10/05, & 12/06.

Congratulations Michelle!

To the OP: 2nd month of trying, at-home with frozen sperm. (In retrospect, first month might have worked but had timing issues with the shipping of the stuff)

Michelle, many, many CONGRATS!!! I'm so happy for you both.

It took us 8 cycles with fresh sperm after charting for a year. On the last cycle we added an IUI to our IVIs. Not sure which did it.

It took us 2 months. I *think* I was actually pregnant the first month and then miscarried but I am not really sure, the tests I had were really cruddy and didn't work.

First Try!!

I used two frozen samples from Rainbow Flag Health Services in Oakland.

They arrived the morning after my ovilator predictor went go and my mucus changed. I did one insemination right after the FedEx guy left and the other that evening, in the car on the way to the Nutcracker.

That day i did just make a pregnancy/baby but also some great stories.

Oh, I'm 29 and in good health.

Good luck!

I got prego first try but I'm fertile myrtle. My SO is a little upset with me tonight, he wants some lovin and I'm ovulating and won't let him near me! I swear I get near a male and I get prego. I've been prego 6 times and every time its happened in 1 try (3 were oopses but still it was like the only time I'd had sex that entire month) 3 were AI cycles that resulted in a pregnancy but 2 m/c'd. The 3rd is asleep next to me

Seriously?

Took my DP and I 10 cycles, or 15 months (I had long cycles) to get me pregnant. We used anonymous frozen washed sperm and started out inseminating vaginally for the first several cycles, which was a huge waste. Then we started doing IUIs, and I got pregnant the first ovulation after I had an HSG. Now was it that the HSG "cleared the pipes" or was it that we had perfect timing on that cycle, or both? I don't know. I'm just happy we finally succeeded. I'm now 32 weeks pregnant! Man, this third trimester is crawling by!
