my 4 1/2 month old has starting refusing my left breast. I have no idea why. he pulls off of it and screams almost everytime i try him on it. He latches to the right one just fine. Is it possible to have a low supply in ONE breast?
I also just got my period back, could that affect it?
Thank in advance

How long has this been happening? Could it possibly be an ear infection?

My son did that and later on I found out I barely had any milk coming out of that side. I had breast surgery and could never nurse without supplimenting but until I knew that I didn;'t have a full supply he used to fight my left breast totally.
He never really grew out of it and so I had one breast bigger then the other lol.
It also could be your cycle returning to. I notice that my babies always complain when my cycles started returning.
But you would think he would do that on both sides.
YOu may want to try pumping on the side he is refusing to see how much milk you will get. Do it while he is nursing on the other side.
You can build up a good supply that way with the double stimulation too.

mama to 6 blessings!
and looking for donor milk for my 2 mo/old w allergies

Ear infection? Teething?

Have you tried varying positions at that breast?

My baby does the same thing, the doctor told me to start pumping to build up that side, I have also started feeding him on the left side at night when he is groggy and can't really tell the difference- it has been working a little. I also always put him to this breast afterhe finishes the other one so it gets some stimulation. I would check with a doctor- I have heard of earaches causing this- this was ruled out by my doctor. GOOD LUCK!

*DOes anyone know if an herbal galactagogue would work?

Have you tried nursing him in the football hold? or while laying down? Sometimes babies are not as picky when sleepy, so you could try nursing him on the left side at night. It's not at all uncommon for babies to develop a preference, it might not have anything to do with supply (although, the preference might cause you to nurse less on that side, thereby reducing the supply and maybe exacerbating the prefernce).
