Silly post partum hormones anyway...

Aldria is JUST like her big brother, she poops multiple times a day.

I always hear that breastfed babies don't *need* to poop every day because breastmilk is so perfect it's 100% absorbed. Okay, so why are my kids pooping 5 times a day?

Just reassure my silly hormones please..

**oh, and update on my previous thread, my boobs have finally calmed down. It's still painful at night laying down and rolling over but it's getting better during the day. They feel softer after she nurses. :

Um, my 9 month old still poops 2 or more times a day. Breastmilk is very laxative.

There are many variations of normal. Your baby pooping 5 times a day is normal for her. You're fine. She's fine.

I've heard that anything from one poop every 4 days to multiple poops a day is normal for breastfed babies.

It is totally fine. Some babies poop several times a day. Some go ten days between poops.

Jam 7, Peanut Butter 5, and Bread 2.

My son pooped every. single. diaper. change. for months.
Now he poops once or twice a day.

I think there is a wide variety of normal.

Your milk is fine. And there's plenty of it

In those early weeks MOST breastfed babies poop numerous times a day.

Thanks!

My one friends dd only poops every few days, and ya always hear that breastmilk is so completely digested there is less poops.

James is 2.5 (3 in Jan) and he STILL poops 2 or 3 times a day. : He's no longer bf'ed though, weaned when I got pg and doesn't remember how to nurse :

I've never heard that! I always thought the breastfed babies poop a lot. My dd's both pooped 10+ times a day as newborns and dd2, 5 mos next week, still poops 3 times a day. At least. They are on the high end of normal pooping but it is still normal.

I found this at kellymom

Quote:
Of note, there are differences between the stools of formula-fed and breast-fed babies. Initially, breast-fed babies tend to stool after each feeding. This averages out to 6-8 times a day. The stool is usually quite watery and resembles diarrhea. Luckily, despite its appearance, there is no foul odor from the stool of babies who are strictly breast-fed. For obvious reasons, detecting diarrhea in breast-fed infants can be difficult. Therefore, if your baby is stooling more than eight times a day, is fussy, lethargic or has a fever, you should certainly contact your pediatrician.

I did ask our ped about how our babes poop more than this and they said it is normal as both babes were/are healthy otherwise.

My DD was a once a week or so pooper - and I worried that she wasn't getting enough...

My DS poops multiple times a day still at almost 9 months... and I worry that he poops too much...

And yet my milk must be roughly the same... and while they have grown differently, they're both healthy and thriving...

But really they are just variations of normal - my midwife once said that stuck: the only thing I worry about is what stays in, spit-up and poop are the laundress's problem . (Of course, I'm also the laundress... )

Mine pooped every hour and a half to 2 hours for the first 2 months. Then he switched to once a day. Now it is usually every second day. On days when he eats more, he may not skip a day with pooping in the near future.

DS was a multiple time a day pooper, like at LEAST 4x a day, until he was well over 6 months. Now at 11 months he is finally down to 1 or 2 times a day.

Mama to 2 sweet gorgeous children, a 4-year-old DS and a 1-year-old DD.

My son was a major pooper. He pooped many times a day!

My DD OTOH was one of those breastfed babies who only pooped every few days.

Anyway, I think your milk is fine!

The amount of poops is so varied, that when teaching I really hate to use that as an indicator for how much milk baby gets. I try to focus more on the hydration status and monitoring urine output. So if baby has a minimum of 6 wet diapers a day and is steadily gaining weight, then I would not worry. Also when poops are a factor, its usually if there isn't enough poop, your baby seems to have plenty
