It can-- most of the time it's temporary. Sometimes, it can lower in the affected breast for a long time. After the first time I had it, I lost pretty much all the supply in the affected breast (but I had a nasty infection and ended up in the hospital) permanently, but from what I gather, that's rare. I'm guessing that a lowered supply is probably more of a function of the mom not wanting to nurse that side because it hurts.

The good news is that the other side usually picks up the slack- I've been nursing my daughter on one side for seven months now.
