My 32 month old is finally weaned. She was nursing like every other day and then every 3 days and my milk has dried up. She still asks and I let her try and she goes "Mmm Mommy milk" but I know there is none there. I am sad because this sweet time is over...

your thoughts?

Wow...32 months of nursing! What a lucky baby you have!

That being said, I can only imagine your feelings about her weaning because my dd is only a year and just started cutting back and I am sad about that. I do think it is so sweet that she still tries to nurse and thinks of it as a positive experience despite the lack of milk. I really think that speaks to the fact that nursing is not just about nourishment.....it's about closeness and love. I don't think that your milk drying up could ever have a negative impact on the nursing bond you have with your child. I guess the hard part would be finding other ways to experience the closeness of nursing.

Happy Mommy to one amazing girl (11y) and one sweet boy (7y), and wife to DH since 7/03 : :

It's a bittersweet time, isn't it? So cool that they're growing up, so interesting to see their next stage, and yet...they're growing up!!!!

I think we're near the end too. Ds only nurses to sleep now and if we happen to be out he sometimes falls asleep in the car before he gets a chance to nurse to sleep. At other times, he's fallen asleep while watching a movie and missed his bedtime nursing. Even when he does nurse, it's only for a few seconds and he snuggles and goes to sleep.

sigh...

Thank you Leafwood and Joan for your words of kindness. It is hard enough watching them grow up and few understand child lead weaning and nursing toddlers.
