one of my very hippie, I thought crunchy friends actually said that to me when I said I plan to CLW after being asked "so when do you plan to wean him"

it seems like even people who are totally natural-minded and laid back seem to think CLW is "weird." It just throws me for a loop...

I haven't had this issue personally, but generally I find those "He/she will never..." comments the easiest to handle, I just respond with something like "*gasp* NEVER? Like, you mean, he will be 19 and still want to nurse??? ". Most of the time that is enough to show them how ridiculous that statement is.

Yeah, that would throw me for a loop too, coming from a hippie friend. Just goes to show, you can't judge a book by it's cover. Or something.

I'd respond:

"What a lucky fellow, eh?"

and smile.

Or if I was feeling snippy, I'd say "It's too bad you aren't more informed about the natural age of weaning. I have some copies of Kathy Dettwyler's articles you can borrow."

I think I'd go for a -mildly interested, eyebrows raised, "really? huh."

Seriously?? Never??? My kids will want to nurse before they go out on a date? Or on their wedding day?? The first day of college? Really? Tell your friend thanks for letting me know what I'm getting into!! :LOL :

LoveChild421 08-15-2005 07:18 PM

:LOL exactly! I knew you mamas would help me come up with something to say! Next time one of my posing-as-crunchy friends says something like that I'll just say "yeah well I guess I'll have to go with him on his honeymoon right?" :LOL

I was just shocked that he felt that way that I didn't know what to say without being a total

People also say that about holding off on potty training. Barring serious psychological and medical conditions, kids don't wear diapers to school, either!

Just and think for yourself.

I always say, "Well I guess she'll have to go to college close to home!" :LOL

I would probably say something *smart* too if that
comment was made to me & my 3yr old nursing buddy...

but I have to confess I have
actually wondered it quietly to myself....
