I'm curious, too. My 11 mo. DD nurses mostly to fall asleep (naps & night), but will nurse for short little spurts 3-4 times a day- so including before naps that's 5-7 times during day. Then, every 3 hrs at night. A lot of times I'll try to nurse her during the day, but she'll pull off to look at/play with something.

Guess I should tell mine - I had to vote in order to see what the results are coming up as. DS almost 10 months is pretty much nightweaned. Mostly did it himself. I nudged a little when he started regressing back to night waking. He wasn't waking to eat; he was waking for company. He is nursing 4-5 times a day - good long nursings, not a snacker. He eats solids at lunch and dinner (not alot yet).

I came to take the poll to see if I could remember that long ago, lol. But with those categories it was easy! Neither of my kids nursed less than 8 times a day before 2 years. Ever.

She's 2.5 now, and NOW nurses about 4-5 times a day, including at night. But at 9-11 mo, she was nursing 3-5 times a night, and about 5-7 times a day... I think. Wow, that's a lot of nursing...

Renae wife to J :, Mama to 4.5y/o J-bird and 2y/o A : and E coming in late Dec/Early Jan. My husband had a living donor kidney transplant! :

I never counted at that age, but I remember doing a count when she was maybe around 14 months old and I think she nursed 12-14 times (including night nursing) in a 24 hour period. So definitely more than 8 times and she has always nursed at night

My 11 mo old nurses a million times a day.
At least 7 during the day and 3 or 4 at night. She eats some solids, but generally not enough to make up a meal.

That age is sort of lost in the mists of time but I know they were nursing every 90 minutes to 2 hours when awake and many many times at night (lots of teething times two babies!).

I think I started sleeping a bit once they turned 2.

Wow, I don't think my kid nursed as much as some of your kids even when he was a newborn! I guess I should also added a question about comfort sucking - because mine have never been much into nursing for comfort. Also duration would be a question. I assume you aren't nursing every two hours for 30 minutes?!

I don't think I've gone more than 2-3 hours w/o nursing DD since she was born. She nurses several times each night (she latches on in our sleep, but I'd guess 3-4 times on a good night and often more). She certainly nurses at least 5 times during the day as well. I don't count. If it's just 5 times, then they're 10+ minute nursing sessions. If its 12-15 times, then some of them are shorter. She often comfort sucks through most of her naps, but she does a real nursing session first, she just likes to stay latched on. She also often does a true nursing session mid nap without really waking up.

Wow, I guess my baby is the only one that is always too busy to nurse? He's almost 9 months. He nurses at 6 am, at 8 or 9 when he gets up, a couple of times briefly during the day, and before bed. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night and wants to nurse, sometimes he doesn't. It's definitely not every 2-3 hours...I worry sometimes that he'll wean early, so I offer pretty often, but usually he isn't too interested!

Mom to Liz (14) and Dillon (3) and Mitchell FINALLY born 7/11/10!

:

My 11 mo DS and I have the same EXACT daily routine. We also always nurse for bumps and bruises, which seem to happen often at this age! I love how it does the trick every time to take the pain away and soothe him!

This is my little girl. Except she almost never nurses at night anymore. (She sleeps in her own crib though) She'll nurse right before bed (between 9-10 pm) then wakes up about 7:00-7:30 am. If she wakes up though I will certainly nurse her. She cluster feeds during the day. When we are out and about she doesn't seem to want to nurse as much so I make it a point to offer at least every 2-3 hours if she doesn't demand it.

She just turned 8 months though. No solids yet. I prolly shouldn't have answered.

Dd was still nursing at least 8+ times a day and was not night-weaned when she was 9-11 months old. I got pregnant right before she turned 11 months and she still didn't cut down on her nursing (though that was about when she started showing more interest in solid foods). We started giving her tastes of our food when she was 7 months old and she started actually eating "meals" with us and snacks between-times when she was 11-12 months old. I think that's when my milk supply started to dip.

love and peace.

My 10 month old DS nurses about 5-8 per day:

1st thing in the morning, before each nap and bedtime (3x), occasionally once in between, and 1-3 at night.

Still nursing every 2-3 hours during the day and will go one 4-5 hour stretch most nights. At the moment he is nursing more like every 2 hours, though. I think he's having a growth spurt. He was 6 weeks early so his adjusted age is 7 1/2 mths. He is just starting to increase solids, but bm is still most of his food. Like a pp said he is less interested in nursing while we're out - too much to look at and listen to!!

Henri is 10 months old, I accidentally hit 6-7 times a day but I meant to choose 8+. He gets about 4 of those sessions between 9pm-6am, and I've been having trouble holding his attention during the daytime to nurse, even resorting to going in a separate room away from people and noise because he refuses to nurse otherwise. Its a tricky time! I'm rather tired of him doing so much nursing at night, but until I can get him to nurse better during the daytime it doesn't look like I have much of a choice. He's gotta get the milk somehow.

My kids were all getting most of their nutrition from nursing at that age--still just experimenting with solids--so they nursed fairly often.

For those of you with babies that nurse less than 6 times a day--does your baby get a pacifier? Do you spoon feed solids?

I am wondering if satisfying the sucking urge or eating more solids has an effect on nursing patterns.
