My son stopped at a little past 4 and I hadn't hit my limit. However, had you asked me when he was little, 4 would have been way beyond my comfort level.
I hoped to nurse my dd when she was born. Due to some medical problems, I didn't know if I would be able to nurse her beyond a couple of days. I had to work so.d*mn.hard to get her to gain weight. and then i had cracked and bleeding nipples for 4 1/2 - 5 months.

When she was 3 weeks old I asked another momma how long she planned to nurse her dd. She told me that she didn't plan to wean her based on some arbitrary date on the calendar. That really resonated with me.

I had a friend when dd was a baby who planned to wean her son at age 2. I thought I might nurse that long. At age 2, nursing was very important to my daughter. I wasn't about to take something away from her that was so important because of an "arbitrary date on the calendar."

DD is 6. She still nurses once a day or every other day. It is what she needs.

I never thought I would be nursing a 6 year old. But it is what is best for my daughter.
