I've wanted to post about how we're doing with cutting back on nursing, but when I found this particular forum it was such a haven of nursing and NOT an obsession about weaning. I've needed this haven so much in these 4.5 years. I'd like to keep this forum about support for those of us who choose to nurse because our children tell us they want to and need to, not yet another place where people are talking about weaning all the time.

As I'm working through my own personal space needs, sleep needs, Maya's sleep needs, need for independence skills, etc. I'd like to vent about it and find empathy. I don't know where else I can post, though (I talk to friends in real life, of course :-) where I don't think they'll automatically encourage serious weaning (not child-led at all) since she's "so old."

I realize mothering.com has more people likely to be supportive than many places, but, where else online do you find comfort for following your child's lead in nursing?

Thanks,
Heather

Obvious probably but the forums of kellymom.com and LLL mother-to-mother forum.

Oh, not obvious to me at all! That's why I'm asking... I've really never found any place online (or in real life, mostly, with a few exceptions) where I can talk about Maya and weaning and not get the whole "just do it" stuff. I don't want to talk about forcing her to do what she's not ready to do, kwim?

Thanks for the leads...

I got some great and really sensitive advice on the Consensual Living list (and none of the advice you're trying to avoid getting--I totally know what you mean on that!). You can link to it from here: http://www.consensual-living.com/

so is this forum not doing what it was meant to when we initiated it?

I was one of the originator's of the CLW forum at MDC, and it was always meant to support mothers with older nurslings who were allowing the weaning process to happen naturally. It was never meant to be a forum to discuss how to wean in any other way than child-led weaning. And in that regard it would be more about support for mom's who nurse their child for 3, 4, 5 or more years.
