I did this yesterday. I have my car/renters insurance through State Farm and when checking my account online yesterday, found a link to file your FEDERAL (US only) return FREE with TurboTax online through the link from the State Farm website: www.statefarm.com (look for Turbo Tax icon in lower right corner). Doesn't appear that you have to have your insurance through SF, since the link comes up even when you're not signed onto your account. There is no income restriction (unlike some of the "free" e-file companies you find through the IRS website).

You HAVE to go through the State Farm website, otherwise you will be charged. You will PAY for your state filing through TurboTax. In IL, you can file free on the state treasury dept's website.

I did my taxes late last night. Got my W-2 from work earlier this week and was just waiting on the 1099 from my bank (interest).

With direct deposit, I'll have my fed refund in 10 days or so - then I can get my new Macbook!

You can also go to http://turbotax.intuit.com/taxfreedom/ and if you qualify you can do fed & state for free. I've used it the past 3 years and never have a problem with it.

You can go to www.irs.gov and there is a list of all online providers that provide preparing your taxes and filing electronically for free. Some state returns are even free!

Thing with the IRS list is that many have income restrictions.

Yeah, I think taxact does have an income restriction.

Taxfreedom does have income restrictions or if you qualify for Earned Income Credit or active military.

Yes, but the income restriction is $54K in most cases so A LOT of people will qualify to file from free.

Katie, mama to one big boy (6/03) and one little boy (12/08) with a new little one due in Mar 2016.
It is never the wrong time to do the right thing.

wow, we have state farm, do you know if it's for all kinds of filers, we have 2 businesses so we can't just do a regular file? That would be great? I'm also going to check into the other programs, we don't qualify for the income ones though.

I will have to try later this week, just tried, but apparently I need to sign up for theonline first, have to get my hubby to get the insurance numbers and info. I am going off to NY to the hospital all week, so it'll have to be after that.

Hubby just told me probably not given how complicated our taxes are
