I had the triple screen 2 weeks ago...

With my dd I was torn whether to have the test or not since I know it is not a very reliable test and really only predicts Down's 60% of the time correctly. It has a high false negative rate too.

WIth my dd the results came back "within normal limits but higher than normal for my maternal age" I was 25 and had results as if I was 29.
I went to a larger city and had the level II ultrasound that showed everything was fine and dd is fine - no down's.

This time again I wrestled with having the test done. I knew that if I had the test done they would let me have a level II ultrasound which is more indicative of down's so even though the ATP isn't a reliable test - having the test would enable me to get the level II ultrasound. I want to know because I want to know and also I would go to a larger city with High risk OB and peds team if there was a problem.

I turned 29 in April. For MY age my risk should be 1/678, but MY risk came back as 1/198. I am going tomorrow for the level II ultrasound and praying that puts my worries to rest since I do not want to have any of the invasive tests. I am excited because now I get to know baby's gender before Christmas, but it kind of squelches the joy a bit since I am worried about this dang test and whether or not the level II ultrasound will be normal.

I am trying to assume everything will be fine (especially since I had this happen with dd although the odds of down's were not as high).

If any of you pray PLEASE say a prayer that my baby will not have any abnormalities and that this is a healthy pregnancy for me with no problems.

I will post tomorrow letting your know all about it. I SHOULD be able to tell you all if it is a boy or a girl!

Lots of happy, healthy baby vibes!

(I had these tests too, so I can empathise w/the stress involved. Hang in there. I bet it will all be fine. )

How'd it go??? I think the worst part of the u/s besides the wait, is the full bladder and then them pushing on it! My level II lasted 45 minutes, and I have to go in for a second to recheck the heart, they couldn't see the main arteries in the first because it may have been too soon.

Everything went fine today. Baby looks great and had none of the markers you see with down's. Also the gentic counselor told me that usually with down's you see the opposite of the way my hormones went (what they would have expected would be elevated was low etc.) They can't say 100% but I think since this test went fine and my hormones looked ok and I am only 29 with no family history or it things are fine. I feel much better anyway.

Also I am having a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My dd is VERY excited about having a little sis and I have saved everything and birthdays are close enough together that makes hand me downs work out great!

Thanks everyone for your support!

Congratulations! I'm so glad everything is ok. I just found out I am having a girl today too! Unlike your dd however, ds was very disappointed. He wanted a brother.
