I just popped in for a quick scan. My FIL's surprise visit caused a rash of desprate, quick housecleaning, frantic trips to the store for groceries and a fan for the spare bedroom and kept me away from MDC for a whole DAY!

Hugs and healing to all the mamas with health issues...geez, what is the deal with mastitis? It seems to be running rampant!

Things here are normal, Ro-Po weighed in at 13lb. 10 oz at my 6 week apt today. No wonder wearing her in the Moby is hurting my belly incision!

Take good care!

Hugs to the mastitis gals, and a hug to NCYVeg (I think I forgot you in my shout-out to all the mamas with bfing issues! My IQ has dropped 50 points since the baby, what can I say??)

Mamacatsbaby, there are no exemptions for the 4 mandatory vaxes. I've spent a lot of time looking for loopholes/ ways out and unfortunately the only one I've found involves moving. And thanks for the thought re: the inlaws! Their visa hasn't come through yet so their trip is delayed until next week.

Luckylady just wanted to send you a hug and recommend that you buy or check out from your library "The No-Cry Sleep Solution" by Elizabeth Pantley. She has some great tips on getting kids into sleep routines that work for everyone and she's super respectful of all types of parenting. There isn't too much you can do before your child is 4 mos old, but she does have some tips for newborns, too. I bought the book because George is a terrible napper. We're working on establishing a routine (not a schedule, his nursing is too erratic for that, but a nice routine). I've seen some improvements already.

gnutter, I was gonna post the same question today! I frankly have NO DESIRE whatsoever to DTD-- now that I know what it can lead to, ! Poor DH, though. I'm freaked out to try it, afraid it'll hurt or feel weird, plus I hate the way my body looks. Can't wait to start exercising again. Strange question, but does anyone already sort of feel like things "down there" feel different/funny since baby? It just doesnt feel the same to me...

Hey May Mamas. I have been reading the posts daily, but haven't had much time to post. With summer vacation and the 4 little ones at home, I could change my name to BusyBusyMomma2! We are doing really well. Babe has finally started pooping again - hooray! And I have figured out that she definately gets uncomfortable when I eat onions - won't sleep unless held, very gassy, VERY fussy. And we had a great time at the circus. Babe was quite content in my hotsling the whole time.

Let's see if I can actually get through some personals before someone needs me:
MaryLizah - 4 months with the in laws??!! Are they staying w/you? All I can say is And about your question, "does it feel different down there" - oh ya, very much so, but in time things should all get back to normal. Keep kegaling!

JayGee - that is a beautiful wrap! I am impressed.

LuckyLady - I think you are right to look at your sleep situation, and make adjustments so that you are ALL happy. There is not just one right way to do things and it looks like you had a good learning experience w/your dd. I read something somewhere about parenting, that if something makes you resentful, change it. Or you could say, "If mama ain't happy, no one's happy!" I second the Elizabeth Pantley suggestion. Her book is really good.

gnutter - no deeds done here yet either! Dh just had the big V, so now we are waiting for HIM to recover - that's a change! And the pressure is actually on to DTD, because he has to clear out all the swimmers that are left before the V. is effective.

andiflipping - oh no, mastitis again! Here are some get well soon vibes for you

Well, I made it further than I thought, gotta run now. Have a great day everyone.

Happy mama of four Wild Things
"And now," cried Max "let the wild rumpus begin!"

Hugs to you mamas dealing with sleep issues. I feel guilty, as I've never had sleep issues with any of mine. Alayna has been sleeping thru the night for over a week now, and the other two did at about the same age too. I hope you all can get it figured out, hugs to you!!

About DTD, we started about 4.5 weeks PP, and it's ok, but sex is NOT the same when I'm breastfeeding, it's not very enjoyable. But I still love the closeness with DH. It's not painful, I just have NO libido right now.

Mom2Nat&Will- Enjoy your little vacation!! How fun! We will be gone the first weekend in August WITHOUT (ACK!!) kids, Friday thru Sunday. I'm nervous...

Max- I hear ya on the busy summer! I can't believe it's the middle of July already!!

Marylizah- That sucks that you can't find a loophole, how frustrating!

Momatheart- A whole day away from MDC?? That's like mommy torture!!

Mamcatsbaby- A family nap, what a great idea!! Enjoy it!!

Luckylady- Hugs, mama, I have no advice, just know that we're here to listen!!

*andiflippin*- Hugs to you too, mama. Hope that mastitis clears up SOON!!

Yesterday was our anniversary, but DH was gone for the last two days. But he sent me 8 roses for the 8 years we've been married!! It's so nice to get flowers from him, because he rarely does it! Tomorrow night we are going out for a nice supper, just the 2 of us

Busy Mama to three beautiful girls and loving wife to my hubby

Oh man Marylizah, that just plain sucks. It really gets me riled up that those with power and money think they should have the right to play with our health. Ugh...

Erika enjoy your mini vacation!

Awww... Sydnee how sweet of your DH! : You guys have fun!

Speaking of BBM, Michelle where'd ya go?

Sayon's been fuss, fuss, fussing all day (he's now finally asleep and has been for over two, count 'em two hours in the wrap ) and nurse, nurse, nursing all day and night for the past four or five days. Hmmm, me thinks another growth spurt is around the corner. Goodness, he's already in six month clothes for certain things. At this rate he'll be wearing DH's clothes pretty soon.

HELLO!!!!I'm still here!of coure,nak...I've been running around like a headless chicken! We put our 815 sq. ft. house on the market, so I have too keep it clean and cute! And not smelly!Or furry,or cluttered,or too personalized....etc...!CRAZY!!

In the midst of all that, our puppy died! She was just 18 mo. old.)We could not figure out what happened-she looked like she was comfy and asleep, totally relaxed, and she was her normal hyper self just hours before. It turns out,she was a lucky liver anyway, and held out for a long time! She was the runt and only girl of the litter, and was not developed enough to develope to adulthood. Most only gender of a litter runts are stillborn, aparently. It's been very sad.We do have our other totally calm dog to help us out, though. She's a sweetie.Poor girl lost her BEST friend!
Of course, when it rains,it pours...: All our hermit crabs died too-well,2 are vanished, but we sifted the whole cage, and all 5 we found are dead! Our first one included,we've had for over a year.(We got him when Snidely, our dog was just a couple months old...)WAYYY TOOOO SAAAD!!!There is an extra pang of sadness that Eli will not remember any of them

Speaking of Eli,he's doing great!chubbing right up,and really fun.My only regret,is that he is like a 3 mo. old!He just turned 6 weeks last night!Where is my sweet little swaddled infant? He's huge, and strong and active and alert. He is SO with the program! Not easy with 3 older siblings, but that could be why he is so all of the above-There'a a lot going on and he's holding his ground.Sleeping is not great, but not horrible.Nursing is pretty good.-My deepest sympathies to all with nursing issues right now!-I'm suspicious of a dairy issue-He's always gassy, and has acne a lot.
He holds his head 98%,starting to reach for stuff, and found his voice this week,he babbles and coo's back and he's more smiley by the week!

I am SO anxious to get back in some jeans!!!!I can't get any past my thighs, nevermind my hips!(I can tuck the flab in,if I could just get them up!)I'm still mostly in maternity clothes.I look like I'm dressed for "I Love Lucy"!Leggings and a big button-up shirt....I even have red hair... No sex here, not even thinking of it(other than some weird dreams)I'm not a big fan of the whole sex world for the first year of nursing-my supply gets in the way,and my libido is just out of town......poor DH.I'll humor him at some point, but not as great as it could be...
Eli has leaked thru his diaper, and Dd2 wants a drink.Later.

KRS, that's so sad about your puppy and hermit crabs.

The only pair of jeans that fit me are my maternity ones with the stretchy panel. :

incase you all wondered what dd was into earlier?????? here's the story

I quickly put down ds, peeked out my door and she had carried the step stool (Maybe pushed it?) over to the changing table (UH OH #1) She had found the vaseline (UH OH #2) managed to open the vaseline *uhoh#3) and was covered in it, i mean her arms hair the changing table, so i snuck back in my room without her noticing snapped a couple of pics and then she saw me and began bawling ....i assured her it was okay but not the best idea to play w/ vaseline lol....man my creative 2 yearold...well just thought id update you all

oh and sydnee gl on the vacation w/out kids, i dont think i could do it yet...i mean i could w/out dd, but not ds yet....

MCB- I'm here now. Can you believe I forgot to subscribe to the new thread again? I missed you all! Good luck with the growth spurt!

busybusymomma2, er, Max - Hope you have/had fun at the circus! Did you get a blowout yet? Audrey is pooping less often so it's more likely to blow out of our snug little prefolds (but the cover holds it)!

Sydnee- glad to hear you and dh are agreeing, and feeling good about your decision! Enjoy your dinner out and Happy Anniversary!

Anita- I hope your battle with thrush is won by now, that just sounds like NO fun!

Amanda- an odd idea... I remember reading that wool breast pads are good for preventing clogged ducts on the premise that coldness increases clogged ducts (and on the occasion that I've had a plugged duct, my breast really is cool to the touch ). Have you tried wool breast pads yet just to see if the warmth would help? You're had a rough road!

Kristina- sending you Great Supply vibes!

Erika- we love prefolds now (used fitteds with ds)... we do the bikini twist and close with a snappi and use MotherEase Airflow covers. Enjoy your mini-vacation! Oh my, your precocious little girl! My friend's dd did the same thing, I forget what she used to get it out of her hair.

BambooMama- After ds was born, I just told our ped that I had done some reading and we had made the decision to discontinue vaxing our dd and we wouldn't be vaxing ds at all (and now dd2 as well of course). I was prepared for at least some gentle nudging to vax, but he just said it was our decision and that was that.

taimarie- I bought some Hylands Teething Tablets last month because they were on sale through Frontier (so even cheaper than usual). They're waiting that day when Dree starts teething... I'm in no hurry tho!

Marylizah- some vax are mandatory there huh? I can understand the desire to wait until you know if you're staying in France. IL's staying for four months? Yikes! : And yes, things feel different down there. I'm just now having real feeling down there... and maybe just a tinge of libido, but not much. :

*andiflipping*- ugh, so sorry you have mastitis again. :

Gretchen- we've DTD a couple of times now. Not bad. My libido isn't great right now though, unfortunately for dh.

Cheryl- I second the suggestion of Elizabeth Pantley's book. I rest it out of curiousity but it seemed like it had some good suggestions though I can't vouch that they work. I hope things improve for you soon!

Corina- wow, your milk must be cream! Enjoy your big little girl!

KRS- Seems like when it rains it does poor. : Dree seems to grown up for an 8 week old. It makes me sad and proud at the same time. :

Whew, took awhile to catch up on all the posts. Time for bed now! :yawning: I'll post more later...

to you, KRS, so sorry to hear about your precious puppy and your hermit crabs! That's a lot to process all at once.

Woke up to some seriously bad news, y'all. The Beirut airport was bombed and is closed, which means we don't know when or how the ILs will be able to come to visit. Plus, it looks like the violence may be escalating with a naval blockade (this would mean they couldn't even travel to Cyprus in order to fly to Europe) and airstrikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut and in the south of the country.

What's so ironic about all this is that the ILs visa is taking a long time to be delivered because they are applying for residency here, partly to escape the unstable political situation there. We're so worried for all the friends and family there-- praying that this doesn't reignite the civil war... :

KRS: So sorry to hear about your puppy...but I'm sure she had a wonderful life with you. Sorry to hear about the hermit crabs as well/

Erika...thanks for the laugh!

Happy Anniversary, Sydnee!

mamacatsbaby...I'm wearing my maternity jeans as well. They're the only jeans that even come remotely close to fitting. It's just too hot here to walk more than, oh, 30 or 40 feet. I'm thinking I'll get back into shape in the fall.

Dd has been sleeping for long stretches since about week 2. The problem is that my breasts are getting super full and uncomfortable at night. I can hand express a tiny bit off for relief, but not a whole lot...and I don't want to pump b/c of the nipple damage. Dh gave her a bottle of expressed (well, really "caught"--throughout the day, I just put a bowl over the breast I'm not feeding dd on ) bm at 4:30 this morning (she had been asleep since 9:15) b/c I was desperate for some sleep...but now she's napping again and I need her to empty my right boob ASAP. It's amazing how my breasts have become the center of my universe. Can't wait for three months old...

Sorry I didn't get through all the personals...hope everyone has a great day!

Oh Maryliza...I'm so sorry. Hoping your family and friends are safe.

Did you all see this...

MDC Closing For Server Move
We are finally stepping forward into our new server. Servers actually. We will have a three server setup, one for the website, one for the database that serves the boards and a third for files and backup needs. So we are moving into quite a spacious and comfortable home that we hope will accommodate our wonderful community in the way it deserves.

If all goes well in preparation today and tomorrow, the plan is to close the board sometime Saturday. It could be the very early hours of Saturday monring or sometime later. If there are any delays we will certainly post an update and will continue to update you on the progress of the move throughout the downtime. Some members expressed concern about loss of threads and advised each other to make copies of threads important to them. We do have a full backup of our databases made daily and will test everything out on the new server as things are transferred to make sure there is no loss of data. We will also have the boards intact on the old server, essentially having two sites up at once. So the possibility of losing data is very minimal and not much of a concern. Thanks for your patience and well wishes for the move!

Any interest in starting a yahoo group so we can be in touch when the server is down???

I'm not sure I can make it all weekend without my May mamas!!! :

Though I've been in read-only mode lately a yahoo group might not be a bad idea for the weekend and future use when we get booted for not being "due" anymore!

Big vent coming (haven't been posting much b/c all is well, but hugs to all having troubles). I joined a "beyond birth" group at our local hospital to meet other new moms and to finally leave my freakin' house! The first day I go I know right away which room it's in - the one with 11 stroller frames outside the door. Now I live in a very liberal, ap friendly area and every mom (11 in all) was using a travel system. I was SO surprised to be the only slinging mama. Next shocker- all binky babes, every last one. They just laid the babies on their blankets while they chatted and the babies sucked their binkies contentedly. When they left, they put the babies in the carriers, locked into the strollers and were off. One even asked me if I had walked there as Rosa was not in a car seat! I was the only one using cloth too. Also today we discovered that all are fully vaxed. I feel like a freak with them and I thought I was living in an ap mecca!! I realized that dh and I have made the decisions we did based very much on what I learned here. Without mdc and the magazine I may have not even thought about many of these issues...I remember when I first joined thinking that I'd keep an open mind, but probably not cd like so many others here...oh how times have changed!
So I thank all of you for being there and helping me along the journey to becoming the type of mama that I've become!

And a picture link to boot!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lafamillemurphy And hi to you mcb too!

Oh my goodness Danielle!!! She is GORGEOUS!!

Sorry about your mom's group experience. Do you have LLL nearby? Or mommy/baby yoga? That's where I've met most of my crunchy mama friends!! Oh and what about the "Finding your Tribe" section here at MDC. I've met a lot of great mamas through there too!

Took the kids in for check-ups today. DS (9 weeks) is 14.5 pounds and 24" long (95th and 90th %). DD (25 mos) is 24.5 pounds and 32" (10th % for both) -- she's such a peanut now but was big like DS when she was a babe.

I LOVE our new doctor. He didn't even mention vaxes (I had previously told him that we don't do any) other than to say that since we're not doing them we were welcome to come in any time we wanted but he didn't need to see them again until next year! He said...if they're healthy, keep 'em out of the doctor's office. This is where the germs are. He also told me that his non-vaxing families are some of the healthiest, most intelligent children he knows!

This is a nice change of pace after leaving our family doctor who claimed to be open-minded about vaxing but made me feel like the most negligent parent in the world every time we went in for a check up. :

PS ~ Just wanted to respond to this...

People really just don't know what's outside of the mainstream...unless they go looking or someone gentle nudges them!!

You *might* want to share Mothering Mag articles with some of the new mamas. Like the recent article on why you shouldn't use travel systems and keep your babe in the carseat all day. You don't have to make it like your the AP expert but more like.....I came across this article and thought it was really interesting.

In my mama and baby yoga class we all used to share various articles of interest that we came across.

I was buying dh a shirt today, and one of the salespeople was intrigued by my sling and asked if "it was the latest thing." I said (nicely): "Um...no. This is pretty much how people have been doing it since the dawn of time."

Love the pics, btw! What a cutie pie.

dshields... i had the 100% EXACT same experience on Tuesday, only it was at the local crunchy baby store (where they actually sell CD's!!!). I'm never going back!!! one woman actually was boisterously recommending her pediatrician to another mama b/c he was really 'progressive and modern'... b/c he was fine with her introducing solids at 2 months!!!! AND the baby had been born 6 weeks early, so really that baby was getting solids 2 weeks after it's due date!!! Holy S*%&!!!!! I couldn't believe it! I'm sure you're not, but if you're around Madison, WI, I'll hang with you!!! LOL

Marylizah- I hope your IL's stay safe!

Danielle- whatta cutie! She has a very expressive face.

Erin- glad to hear you're loving your new ped... that's what I like about mine, he just never mentions it or tries to change my mind.

Amanda- isn't that funny? Nope, not a new fad. Say, I watched the newest Love Comes Softly movie awhile back and at the end of the movie she was gardening with her baby tied onto her with a wrap like piece of cloth.

Oh we had a solids issue too! 3.5 months and the lady was ready to feed solids, but her ped "is against it", she said in an irritated voice. This one talked about how dh hated to hear the son cry and he could hear his baby crying in the nursery at the hospital and was annoyed. Shocking in itself - but why was the kid in the nursery while his parents hung out in the room next door? She also said that she was mad that her ped put so much pressure on her to nurse. When I asked her who her ped was she assumed it was so I could avoid them! I won't even tell you how a BFING mom said that women needed to realize that they have choices other than bfing! I had to mention the millions spent on formula bags and ads in every glossy magzine out there to remind us. It's just so disapointing.

Erin, great idea on the article. I can give it to the moderator and she could distribute it...she gave us a Mothering article from 1987 the other day. BTW, we are going to be spending alot of time in Newport over the next month (il's rented a house) if you are nearby at all maybe we could meet up sometime.
