She has a strange skin lesion that has the vet stumped. We are going to try a topical medication for it--I don't want her ingesting the medicine or licking at the wound in general, as I think she keeps re-opening it as it's ttrying to heal.

Has anyone successfully used essential oils or anything similr in keeping their pet from gnawing at an area of skin? Any other suggestions?

You need to make an elizabethan collar for the cat to keep him from licking it. A long time ago I had to do that for a cat who had surgery and they told me either I could buy one, or make one out of a paper plate cut up.

(I'd google it, I'm sure you'll find some directions)

Perpetually breastfeeding or pregnant ENFP mom to a lot of kids...wife to a midwestern nice guy...living in tropical paradise...pink cats and homebirths rock!

We actually have an e-collar already; we were just trying to find an alternative. I should have been more clear in my op!

Since she can't go out with the collar on, that means inside litterbox use. Because we have a baby gate around the litterbox, I don't think she could get to the box with the collar on. And she's having issues with soft/bloody poop riight now too, so we're really not wanting to make the litterbox an issue on top of things!
